I'm in Ft.Lauderdale. Looks like Broward and Dade are going to get TONS of rain and some wind, but nothing over 100 MPH. Palm Beach, however, is probably going to get real damage. I spent ALL DAY yesterday putting up my 10-12' long aluminum shutters. I **** you not, it was one of the most physically taxing things I've ever done. I'm even sick today! What a Pansy! And it looks like I didn't really need to. Oh well, better safe than sorry.
Hey, I hope you guys in Palm Beach are ok and if not, I have three guest rooms that sit empty--SERIOUSLY, don't sleep in a tent and **** in a bucket. I lived through Andrew. I know.

in between "feeder bands" it cleared up pretty nice for us in Western Broward County...I went jogging for 50 minutes, and boy did that get rid of the cabin fever...
moving all the stuff in my patio, as well as putting up the shutters (on like 25 different windows at my parents house) in the 92 degree Florida steambath was a workout and a half.....
what REALLY sucks is the fact that the bitch is only moving at an average of 4MPH!!!!!
i think it's time to have a few beers.....

Developments associated with hurricane Frances:
- Frances weakened Friday into a strong Category 3 storm, but still carried 195 kilometre an hour wind and the potential to push ashore waves up to four metres high, and forecasters warned that the storm, which had 235 km/h wind Thursday, could regain strength. It was expected to begin affecting Florida by Friday evening and its centre could make landfall there as soon as late Saturday.
- The storm toppled trees and tossed satellite dishes onto roadways Friday as it continued on its path through the Bahamas, approaching the most populated of its more than 700 islands. Nassau lost power and was pounded with rough surf. Cruise ships were diverted, and many beachfront hotels were evacuated. Towering waves and wind of about 195 km/h were reported Thursday on San Salvador Island.
- A hurricane warning remained in effect for Florida's eastern coast, from Flagler City south almost to the state's tip, and about 2.5 million people were told to flee, the largest evacuation ever in Florida. Gov. Jeb Bush declared a state of emergency throughout Florida. Highway construction crews cleared roadways and tolls were suspended to make way for evacuees
Home improvement stores sent hundreds of supply trucks into Florida to restock shelves with plywood and generators, and some stores stayed open through the night. Lowe's Companies said generators were in short supply because it had already shipped 25,000 to Florida after last month's hurricane Charley.
- The Federal Emergency Management Agency was arranging to have about 4,500 disaster relief workers ready to begin work after Frances hits, triple the number it had for Charley. Calls for crews went out as far away as Seattle.
Hundreds of Florida schools, colleges, courts, city halls and businesses remained closed, as did Kennedy Space Center and Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades. Major amusement parks including Disney World and Universal Orlando planned to close early on Friday. Amtrak closed all facilities south of Orlando, and CSX shut down freight operations in South Florida. The main airports serving Fort Lauderdale and Melbourne were closing Friday morning.
Hurricane Categories
The Saffir-Simpson scale of a hurricane's intensity is used to estimate the potential property damage and coastal flooding. The scale is determined by wind speed, since storm surge sizes depend on the slope of the continental shelf.
Category 1:
Winds 119-151 km/h. Storm surge 4 to 5 feet above normal. Damage primarily to unanchored mobile homes, shrubbery and trees. Some damage to poorly constructed signs and piers.
Category 2:
Winds 154-170 km/h. Storm surge 6 to 8 feet above normal. Some roof, door and window damage of buildings. Considerable damage to mobile homes, small watercraft, trees, poorly constructed signs and piers. Flooding of coastal and low-lying areas.
Category 3:
Winds 181-197 km/h. Storm surge 9 to 12 feet above normal. Some structural damage to small residences. Mobile homes destroyed and large trees blown down. Coastal flooding destroys smaller structures and floating debris damages larger structures. Terrain lower than 5 feet above sea level may flood as far as 8 miles inland.
Category 4:
Winds 210-243 km/h. Storm surge 13 to 18 feet above normal. Wall failures and roof collapses on small residences, and extensive damage to doors and windows. Complete destruction of mobile homes. Major coastal flooding damage. Most recent Category 4 storm to hit United States was Hurricane Charley on Aug. 13. Before that, the last one was Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Frances is currently rated a Category 4.
Category 5:
Winds greater than 245 km/h. Storm surge greater than 18 feet above normal. Complete roof failure on many residences and industrial buildings. Smaller buildings and mobile homes blown over or completely blown away. Major damage to lower floors of all structures located less than 15 feet above sea level and within 500 yards of the shoreline. Massive evacuation of residential areas on low ground within 8-16 kilometres inland may be required. Last Category 5 storm was Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
