I feel bad for artest... such great talent and potential and has let it all go to waste because of his temper problems, plus hes a bullly, how come he didnt get into it with wallace, with each is monster, yet beats up on a bunch of fansthat were probably drunk and tiny next to him. And I love jermaine, met the guy in the pre olympics in san juan.. great guy, but he defenitely crossed the line, oh well, lets see the punishment they get, see ya.

I hope he does, he's a piece of crap. Who does that??? Nice example for kids around the world. He should have been totally kicked out of the league.

This state is in a F*cking outrage. Nothing means more to Hoosiers than basketball (well maybe corn) and a season suspension is outrageous. We have carried this at my station seemingly every minute of the day because of its magnitude around here. September 11th could happen all over again and it would be the 2nd story during each newscast. Hell many fans waited at the airport to cheer the players on with signs and Pacer gear when coming home. Motherf*ckers are crazy about ball around this city.

Mark my words these suspensions will be reduced! Guarenteed there will be no 25game Oneal suspension, no season suspension for Artest and no 30games for Jackson. The NBAPA has too much leverage to ever let this stand. Hell Billy Hunter and the union have already begun drafting up a 'just' punishment that I forsee will be implemented soon. We will see Artest again this season and thats a money back TCO guarentee.

YOu really do live in a dream world badgerman, Keep dreaming because that will never happen. Professional players should act professional. 73 games was way to small of a suspension. He should have been removed from the NBA.... That way he can go do his rap thing

I used to have respect for Artest when he played for St Johns but he is a punk. He wouldnt take a shot at Ben Wallace because he would have gotten murdered. So instead he takes his frustration out on the smallest fan in sight(who didnt throw the beer on him) Then he releases a statement of how sorry he was etc etc, david stern is picking on me wahhh wahhh im not a bad guy. Then last night hes on Hot 97 and the DJ's basically defended his actions, and Artest contradicted his released statement. "I just keeping it real, ya know" My god the NBA is a sad institution. Dont ban me for this statement but it all honesty Artest perpetuated the stereotypes that blacks get and he acted like a real N****R......

the day i cant scream and get drunk at a sporting event is the day i stop going. Theres a difference between being emotional and supportive for your team and being a rowdy drunken fool. Its been going on since the roman empire in the coloseum and probably before. There are already too many restrictions on alcohol at sporting events anyways. No beer after the 6th inning, only 2 cups at a time....so dumb

And thats how I feel. You want to foul wallace, thats fine, but don't throw a temper tantrum when he shoves you back. Not like thats never happened before either.

And I still don't get how you guys are saying he was "assaulted." He was "assulted" by a PLASTIC CUP. Not some broken beer bottle or a brick. Remember: He was assaulted by a plastic cup, and he responded by beating up random people in the audience. Thats called being a coward and a cry baby. Hes lucky no one that knew how to handle himself was up there, and that he could just walk around with his buddy O'Neil throwing punches. He probably never even found the person that threw the PLASTIC CUP that so BRUTALLY ASSULTED him.

When I was a soccer ref I had cups thrown at me once. Sticks and stones people, I was doing what I did for the money, and so what he. His team was winning, and hes getting paid probably 1,000 times what I was.

I would NEVER jeopardize a multi-million dollar contract to fight someone. People need to learn to control their emotions.

And how many people on this board would be FIRED from their jobs for fighting? Imagine someone in the office threw a cup of coffee at you and you chased them down and beat the hell out of them. I don't think you'd be suspended.

Exactly.... you can throw beers at me alll day long for 3+ million dollars a year. These guys are completely out of line, and should be banned forever.

I can not believe any of you are defending Artest. He is a pure punk BIITCH!.. He gave a hard foul to Wallace, and Wallace did not like it. Wallace acted badly, got pisssed off, and wanted a piece of Artest. Well Artest was a pusssy and wanted nothing from the big bad man who can hadle himself and is of a similar size as Artest. But NOOOO that man is too big for him to fight. He PUNKED out and looked scared when Wallace came after him. So when a fan throws a beer at him he runs into the stands and picks the first little white high school kid he sees and tries to take him out to save his pride because he looked like a pussy for running away from Wallace.

Do any of you see this? Artest would rather fight a kid (who btw was still holding his drink in his hand) in the stands who may or may not have thrown the beer at him, instread of fighting the man who just challenged him and shoved him in the face and told him lets go. Artest should be removed from the league, and so should his thug teamate Jackson.

As far as Oneil is concerned, he should not be suspended. Once a fan goes on the court there are no rules as far as I am concerned. The same goes if the player goes in the stands. Just my $.02

Fortunately the whole world is not Indiana. A lot of us outside of Indiana feel that Artest and Jackson should be thrown out of the league. Let them play in Europe if they are going to be thugs. Also, expect criminal charges against Artest and Jackson. I believe these suspensions will stand, and don't be surprised if there is public outcry and fan protest over the whole thing. Expect fan attendance to games to drop from fear after this. No matter how much Indiana loves basketball, what happened was a criminal act of assault by Artest and Jackson. People are pissed that these suspensions were not greater for these 2 thugs. I am one of them.

I am pissed because I have season tickets to Miami Heat games and my daughter now says she is scared to go with me anymore. She said that it is what her friends are talking about. This whole thing has affected me in a way I never expected. I am sure these kind of situations are happening all over the country by all sorts of fans. Do you think that kid that was crying in the stands after the game will ever go back to a game, for a long while anyway? I think not.

Thats too bad. I'm sure something like this won't happen again though, at least not with the players attacking the fans.

That is exactly what my first thought was. I would loved to have seen over paid athletes get their sh*t handed to them. Although most guys that know they can kick your ass dont have to throw beer to start sh*t they usually let someone else do that.

How can you miss this they show it on every single episode of sportscenter. It plays all through the night until noon the next day. And then Cold Pizza had coverage today and certainly they will have footage on PTI, ATH, and Sportscenter again tonight. Sit in front of your TV from 4-6 and you will see it at least 3 times minimum. Hell ESPNews at one time had it as 60% of their 30minute programming block.

You get paid millions of dolllars........You should be able to control your actions. Without fans (pricks or not) they would be working at Kroger's somewhere bagging some doritos...Every sports fan knows about every aspect of every game although around 90% have never played it or could move out of their seats without getting short of breath.

Artest should be gone for life. That's just my opinion. You can't compare someone spilling coffee on me at my office, because I don't get paid millions of dollars and they don't pay my salaries. It's an unwritten rule in PROFESSIONAL sports to NEVER strike a fan in any matter. Regardless, of how much someone provokes you.

If ANYONE has ever played any seroius athletics in their life they know that this type of thing happens constantly. The reason you don't hear about the athletes getting into fights with them is because they have more sense.

I'd also like to add that at least step up to Wallace and see what you can do. Don't go after the twig in the audience. I only wish it would have been someone capable of beating his a*s instead of some moron. It's really worth risking millions of dollars and embarrasment the rest of your life to prove that you can fight with a fan.

you might have read about this, but in case you havent, here's an update on the cup-throwing fan:

    (Source: SI.com)
To no one's surprise, the fan that tossed the drink at Pacer Ron Artest to ignite last Friday's brawl has a criminal record. According to the Detroit Free Press, John Green has been convicted for felony assault with intent to do great bodily harm in addition to three convictions for drunken driving. Wow, that's even a long rap sheet by NBA standards. How come nobody's signed this guy yet?

Did you hear Artest crying that his suspension it too long? What a d*ck. They should throw him out of the league. I heard the suspension will result in him losing $5 mill. And did you hear what he said about the guy that first pushed him, I can't remember his name right now, big afro. He said he let that go b/c the guy just had a death in his family. Right!! What a p*ssy.

Pete Rose got kicked out of Baseball for gambling which is legal in many forms in many states and illegal gambling is tolerated to a point as a harmless vice (dont want to argue why this was neccessary to boot him too or not but at its roots this is why he got kicked out). Ron Artest got one yr suspension for assault and battery......seem fair now??? He should get the boot from the league, send a message to the rest of the league that they arent in the ghetto anymore.......
