i hate to break it to you.. your not buying clothes or jewelry. your buying FEELINGS. feelings that you think will follow the purchase that never wind up coming. just find different (more functional) ways to provide those feelings to yourself, than youll be less driven to buy shit you dont need.Originally Posted by SVTMuscle
maybe its because i dont have a gf, and if i had a significant other to care about/care for me, i wouldnt have this 'desire' to have so much 'stuff'?Originally Posted by Bojangles69
chances are if you had a girl indeed she would inhibit any desire you had to fill personal voids with material items like clothes. but fact remains, as much as she may quell these issues, and make you feel content with your life. these VOIDS are like pits in the structure that hold you together as a functioning human being. think of it like a pit in a steel beam holding a bridge together. (you being the beam that keeps the bridge from collapsing) if you spend your life searching for something to fill that void that isnt composed of the what causes the void itself (yourself/steel) future stress will only cause the void to expand and increase the desire to be fixed or fullfilled. you dont fill the pit in the beam with elmers glue without expecting 5-10 years down the road for serious complication to result, just like you dont fill a human void with a material item. its like throwing a blanket over a problem, out of sight may be out of mind, but rarely out of existence.Originally Posted by SVTMuscle
not to mention a tendency to struggle keeping the blanket on the problem ie: getting clingy with women, possessive, even more insecure than you were before you met them, because as your not exposed to the issues they now cover, your tolerance decreases, and you become obsessed with making a temporary solution a permanent one. Like never having the ability to let a girl go that your only slighty intrigued by. The best way to fill voids is counterintuitive but it works. STARVE THEM. because fact is you are not a f_ckn steel beam. Your a human being. Dont feed voids and let them control you. It works the other way around. In an environment thats deprived of superficial fullfilment, the human mind will replace these voids with emotional patches by running straight through the anxiety and discomfort the voids initially provided you when starved. After a while the voids actually die, and a new healthy patch, or emotional scar will be the final veneer that buries your voids forever.

Haha it's not a matter of me like, NEEDING these things to feel good about myself and filing the 'void' in my life with 'stuff'.
It's just a matter of me wanting nice things to look good, be classy and have style and not be like the 99% of white trash kids that our my age still wearing TJ Maxx clothing their mom bought for them 6 years ago.
Again, save your money to get big. It won't matter what you have on because everyone will be looking at what's underneath.

Whats point having an awsome body and neglecting good clothes?
Because you grow out of them. I don't know about you but I am constantly growing. I stopped spending excessive amounts of money on cloths because I don't wear them longer than 6-9 months. I have a $2,000 leather jacket hanging in my closet that I can't wear. I wore that thing one year and the next year my back and shoulders were to wide to wear it.Originally Posted by Just t

I dont believe that your growing so fast your just outgrowing your clothes every year like a 8 year old hitting a growth spirt. I dont buy it. For the past 2-3 years I do not believe you have went from wearing size L clothes to XXXL.![]()
I hate to say it, but I’ve been there bro.
I use to work 2 full time jobs to buy nice things and pay my rent, car payment and insurance.
I had to have nice everything, right down to the towels in the bathroom, everything had to be designer.
I don’t know what made me change, but I did pretty much a 180.
I don’t have shit really right now, but I have a hell a lot of equity on investments. I work my ass off, not bragging about it, but I’ve never met a person who devotes as much time and effort as I do to my career. I love every minute of it too, the only thing I regret is not having a wife/girl friend that has the same interest, but you can’t have it all.
I learned also, you don’t make any money working 4 jobs. You make money working one job, being your own boss too. If you are motivated to have those nice things, use that as a tool to motivate you to create something that produces results in the wallet. Remember, migrant workers are hard workers, but they are not rich.
Now I really don’t think about tangible objects as much. Keeping the idea alive that I could retire in my 30’s, do what I want, take what ever vacation I want keeps me going. Again though, some things suffer. I’ll probably really end up retiring before I am 40, but I doubt I’ll have a family or a wife/girl friend to share it with. I guess I’ve just accepted that I can buy love at that point, lol
Then I grow faster than you because I have outgrown my cloths. I have XL dress shirts I can't wear any more. The last one I put on I tore the seam. I have a 30-32" waist and I buy my pants sizes 36-38" to fit my quads and ass. I have plenty of cloths that do not fit. Another thing, I don't like to wear cloths that look like I'm swimming in them. You don't believe it, that's your problem, not mine.Originally Posted by SVTMuscle

Another thing, you're 6'1" and I'm 5'6" and we weigh the same. For you to be my size at 6'1"you'd at least need to be 270. Once you reach 270, then you tell me how cloths fit.

As was said earlier...your life has no higher meaning than being a consumer...think about it...that sucks. You are controlled by Madison Avenue...they tell you what you need to be happy, sexy, successful, desired, etc...its all bullshit. You say you work 4 jobs...for what? To consume more?? I'd seek some help...or go to school, find some hobbies...find anything other than accumulating stuff you have a passion for and excel in it...make that a goal in your life........buying shit is something anyone can do....do something that only you or a few others can do...thats happiness.
I work 4 jobs to keep me busy. If im not in the gym, on my laptop or working. I go insane. I need to keep occupied.Originally Posted by Teabagger

Like I said before, its not a matter I'm being 'controlled' by my 'stuff' or "the things you own, own you now" none of that non sense. it's just a matter of me making decent money, working hard, deserving nice things because I have expensive taste and a high standard of living.
4 jobs!!! makees me really question whether that many jobs is a product of your "wants" or "needs" but w/e the case, it will definently build your character and whether or not your converting material value (money) directly into another form of material value (like clothes) your still building a more dependable value that you cant spend (like character) But overall, your still young, so am i, so at least enjoy yourself but just dont establish patterns that will push you into debt when you get older. My problem is being picky as f_ck. I have to try like 10 t-shirts on before i buy one just to make sure it "fits right". Jeans or dress shirts im even worse with, which is why i rarely spend money, because the process of spending it is more aggravating than pleasing. Today i went to Marshalls was there for 1 1/2 hours, tried on about 5 or 6 t's a couple pairs of pants, and left with one shirt. Out of all the clothes i have i only wear about 10% because the other 90 doesnt fit right. Ill prob wear the shirt once, and start wearing an older shirt that fits better. Maybe cause im short, maybe its ocd or some shit, but it pisses me off sometimes.Originally Posted by SVTMuscle

At the grocery market, 4 days a week, 21 hours week
Detailing Cars, only about 1 or 2 cars a week.
So even with 4 jobs, its still only pretty much 1 full time job. I just like the change of scernery and enviroment and being my own boss
that is f-cking cool as hell, cause when im at petsmart for like 4 days straight i want to lose my mind and strangle all the animals. that little break of monotony can go a long way though, i know a lot of people who are working their way up to real careers and tend to view thier current jobs as shit. ive never walked into a any form of a retail store and heard someone say "i like my job". so at least you get to mix things up a bit.Originally Posted by SVTMuscle

Well i'm 20 and natty. i only have 17 inch arms. when i hit 20, i'll buy a 4 pack of hanes t shirts for $9.99 and feel like a true pimp.
Man i know exactly what you're talkin about. I've been workin construction for my dad since i was 18, makin $30 some dollars an hour. I get two thousand dollar paychecks a week and I spend it as soon as I get it. Recently i bought two pair of ray bans sunglasses ($150 each), $500 seiko watch and bought a street bike $4500. I'm buyin another bike this weekend (11,000 grand). Thing is, i owe my dad $5000 for a dui i got last summer and im a thousand in debt to ccs. I havent paid off my first bike yet and im already buyin another one. Tonight i went out with friends and spent over $100 on food and drinks, while my friends spent 20 or so. Spent 300 in one night the other day while on liberty for the military. I need help and i wake up feeling like shit every day
