The "why" lies in the idea that the Palestinians want to tie there existence to some point in the distant past to give themselves validity, just like the religion of Islam itself.

No the author is saying that they don't have ties to the land which I don't get because Palestinians are just muslims, jews, christians, etc that are native to the land.

Yeah, sure.... Israelis are the ones who want to have all the land. Arabs already have 21 sovereign countries of their own (more than any other single people on earth) and control a land mass over 800 times the size of the land of Israel.

"We Palestinians will take over everything, including all of Jerusalem....All the rich Jews who will get compensation will travel to America....We of the PLO will now concentrate all our efforts on splitting Israel psychologically into two camps. Within five years we will have six to seven million Arabs living in the West Bank and in Jerusalem....You understand that we plan to eliminate the State of Israel and establish a purely Palestinian State....I have no use for Jews; they are and remain Jews."

That's right, judge the entire nation on the words of a few fanatics...
You know, not EVERY person want's to blow themselves up, and not every palestinian wants to see all jews dead. Perhaps they just want them to get the f**k out of their country...
