I scuba dive and always thought sting rays were passive animals. The only thing I can think of maybe he was agitating the sting ray and pissed it off.

yea ive heard that stingrays are not aggressive too. it wouldn't surprise me that steve was trying to fu_k with it.

thats sad though... he was entertaining to watch, plus he seemed like a genuinly good person

to be honest, it surprises me that hed die like this after all the other animals that he had worked with, which were more dangerous than stingrays

Embarassing is the fact that a few people in this thread could crack jokes about a great man that meant alot to many on the day of his death...

I dove the Cayman islands and swam at Stingray City, the stingrays there were incredibly tame to tourists and would literally eat out of our hands and let us pet them on top and their bellies

It is a shame this happened to such a renowned authority on animals
