And of course with a shotgun within a decent range you can't miss, but there are two guys and the the guy who shot is old. I can safely assume he isn't Neo from the matrix and would be able to shoot both of them in the legs with a lot of speed without being harmed when they are within 15 yards as stated. You won't die right away if shot in the leg so the guy with the crow bar would have a chance at dealing some damage. If you shoot them in the torso and there isn't much chance they will still come after you. Not only that you kill one guy the other guy most likely won't want to attack you now in fear of death.
2-3 WITH a bolt action r***e, taking his time. I would say that for an old man in his 70's that shooting a small object, goose head, is pretty impressive. Trust me, if he had been up close or had a semi-auto he would have plowed that thing under.

If I shot you in the leg with a shot gun once, I doubt you are going to come after me. If I shot you in the leg 2-3 times, your going to be lucky your not dead.

I'm pretty sure if I saw my friend get shot in the leg, I would stop. That goes for all of us.

but imo he should have shot those guys in the legs. They would have gone down and stayed down til cops arrived. This guy went out there to kill them but i still think he shouldnt be charged for anything. I completely understand the protesting outside his home and i think he deswrves that. But he should not be charged with any crime IMO[/QUOTE]

No way man, if you shoot someone you better finish them off. You dont want them comming back for round 2 when they heal up

This is similiar to a case that happened in England a few years back where two guys broke into a Farmers house and he shot dead one of the intruders with a shotgun. The Farmer was given 25 years in prison. I'm not sure what happened after but I think there was a huge public outcry and his jail term was hugely decreased.

I have to say, burglars or not, some of you guys need to show some compassion. Im all for using force, but lethal force??? Do you honestly believe in your heart of hearts that those two guys deserved death? If you do then that's one reason why the world is so ****ed up...

I do not believe they deserved to die, as they were not on his property and he was out of step by jumping into that when the police were called. However, I firmly believe that you have the RIGHT to kill anyone who breaks into your home, whether they are armed or unarmed, and whether they have you trapped or pose no immediate danger to your life. The very act of breaking into your home while you are present is a clear enough intent and disregard for your life and property, and as such they definately deserve to die.

The homeowner in this case without a doubt over stepped his bounds. However, I still do not believe he should serve a day in jail or pay a single cent in punitive damages to the families. The two men were in the process of committing a crime.
