It is a stimulant, the idea behind it is that for people with chemical imbalances causing OCD, the drug will actually slow them down and help them focus (the opposite of what it does to normal people). Not too much clinical on Adderall, although it's frequently given for OCD. Truth is it might cause as much OCD as people it helps.

He needs real help from a psychologist that specializes in OCD, possibly augmented with medication from a psychatrist. There is no magic pill for OCD

I've thought I had a mild case of it at times.....

I get obsessed with even numbers. The volume on the radio and TV must be an even number..... if there is no "number" displayed - I count the number of "ticks" to make sure it's even.

If I were to spin in a circle once to my left..... I would have to spin again in the opposite direction to "even" things out.

If i'm following someone in a store around clothing racks and such..... i'll follow their exact path instead of cutting through using a "short cut"

I check the front door in my house before I goto bed 2 or 3 times to make sure it's definately locked.

These things don't make me think i'm going to get hurt in any way if I don't do them..... but they give me slight anxiety. I havn't really worried about it too much to be honest.....

WOW i ****ed this post up lol.
I was skimming through this thread half asleep, and thought for some reason we were talking about ADD!
For OCD, there's some very advanced cognitive behavioral therapy methods that can be effective and probly even more effective with an SSRI like paxil or prozac, although like kratos said, there is no magic pill for any given disorder. Good luck.

I believe that we all have a little form of OCD...But when we start doing what your takin about it will so become a physical thing and not just a mental thing.

It is a bid bonus that you relize the problem in advance...

You need to see a therpist and explain in detail what is going through your mind so they can go from there.

Make sure you let them know if they are not able to treat this properly to refer you to someone that can .

It is there responsibility to get you the treatment you need.

I have found that cleaning profoundly and deeply satisfies me when I have an attack coming.

i got a thing where i MUST check my oven before i leave to work, or before bed, even though i have not used it that particular day.

if i don't, then i can't sleep or leave the house, for fear that the oven might be on and my dogs will die in a fire or something, etc.

i also gotta check a few candles that my girl has around the house,, even though i know they're off,, i MUST check each one before i go.

it sucks and it slows me down a few minutes everyday,, but i have learned to work around it like most people i guess.

i have not yet seen a doc/therapist for this shit yet,, my girl says i should tho before it gets any worse.
