mg1228 got it right with my intention when I said slowly add calories AFTER you get to the level of shredded mass you want.

I had to fight with the scales as it was alien after spending my whole life getting big now I'm getting small. No two ways about it man you will look smaller in clothing. Main drive is to keep strength growth.

You could bulk but I know you'd regret it. Of course if you asked me 2 years ago I'd have said BULK!!! Get massive. I feel I know better now but everyone is different and likes different looks. Some guys in the gym ask me if I'm ill as my face is gaunt. I got used to that. Cutting is HARD bro but you'll get rewarded in the summer with washboard abs!!!

Thanks man... that's the big hope I have is to get those washboard abs, and then slowly add calories (200-300 above maintenance to start?) and keep things in check with Cardio. The only thing I DON'T want is to stay the same; I definitely need to put on some muscle - as you can see in my pics there is barely anything there already - it's effing embarrasing. When I was fat I could 'cover up' with baggy clothes; there is no hiding being a scrawny nothing.

You got shape bro, good solid base.

Ideal world, you are 260lbs and cut. I'd love to be about 245lbs @ 8% year round but ni truth you look at the guys on screen that people love the look of:

Gerard Butler in 300 as a Spartan king
Brad Pitt in fight club (maybe a little on the skinny side)
JCVD... Not massive but cut up

Anyway, they all look good with the muscle they have due to their condition. 180lbs can go a long way if you are 6% bf. Then like you say, work up the cals, taper carbs back up to higher levels until you gain decent weight. It's harder this way, staying lean, but ultimately do you wanna look good once a year or all year?

Agreed - I wouldn't mind looking like either Gerard Butler or JCVD - and true, Brad Pitt was a bit on the skinny side, but right now i'd take it for the pure cut!

You're absolutely right bro and make a great point - I do NOT want to go through a roller coaster life where i'm constantly in a cycle of bulking/cutting/bulking..... etc. - I guess it's the old straight and narrow path adage...

Exactly! I've been telln everyone that I know about tdee and loseing/gaining weight in a controlled manner.. I personaly have found that eating by measurement and having my pro, carb, fat in check(to the point I want it), takes all the stess outa dieting. Its really not a diet. I've always eatn pretty clean, but this way it helps use food as more of a tool instead of wondering why us folks arnt gettn what we need outa our work on the iron. Or whatever activity we do.
