    Easy E.
    NWA.
    KRS One.
    Kool Moe Dee
    Doug E. Fresh
    Grandmaster Flash

Man, I know there a bunch more that I listed to WAY back. I don't listen to much now. Love Jay-Z, and listen to some Nas, Lil Wayne and Eminem. I know there is other great stuff out there, but all the retarded club/party rap crap has turned me off to the genre.

You see, you don't have to hate Hip Hop because you listen to metal. I'm glad I have such a big array of choices. I couldn't listen to the same genre all the time...that's mad boring!
I'm starting to like this guy ^^^

60's / 70's rock is my favorite genre of all. Led Zep is probably my fav of all time aside from the Beatles. I'm a huge Floyd fan, also a big prog rock fan - King Crimson, (early) YES, Rush, Jethro Tull, ELP, etc.

Like your style too Haz, minus the EDM - except for when i'm in a club and drunk as fvck! I mean, I don't sit around my house and listen to the shit though lol

We regret to inform you that the free tickets are off the table as TWA is no longer flying the skies. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused. Please try again later....

Disliking 2Pac doesn't necessarily mean liking Biggie....although people who prefer a lyrical MC will side with B.I.G. on this one.

Dude changed how MCs rapped. He took all the focus of Hip Hop away from the West Coast, back to the East and had most MCs wanting to sound like him. He's definitely a legend in his own right....oh, I forgot to mention, he completely bodied Tupac in their beef that they had.

    Check this out.

Most people know "Hit 'Em Up", BUT...
...unlike Tupac, Biggie ain't no name caller. Whenever he took shots at other MCs it was subliminal (like NaS, Ghostface from the Wu-Tang Clan, DJ Premier). This diss track is also strictly subliminal, which makes it so much better. Calling out somebodies name is easy, and will get you the attention that you wanted....but taking somebody apart subliminally holds a much higher place in the eye of the lyrical analyst, as only the true LISTENER will pick up on it, and enjoy it A LOT much more. It's like being in a exclusive group of people who know what's up, while the rest walks around, completely oblivious to what just happened!!

Tupac left it on a level that nobody will ever surpass. His influence is unmatchable and I think that is because of his tragic death. The West Coast rap in the 90's in my opinion was the golden age of Hip Hop. Tupac, Warren G, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Cube, NWA, etc. Untouchable.

Right now, I do not listen to rap, i occasionally listen to some new stuff but it will never be on the same level as with the West Coast stuff.

this new age rap isnt bad but its not that good, all they talk about is money and girls. lil wayne has come and gone. he had good metaphors for awhile but hes slipping. now you all will hate me for saying this but kanye had some good lyrics(mainly first album) yeah hes a goof. the only real old school rap i ever listen to is a tribe called quest cant really get into anything else.

My feelings exactly. Its all about money, cars and girls. Thats fine and all, its cool that they rap about that but... what does that mean to me? Nothing. Before, rappers used to rap about things the average joe would face at times or deep thoughts. But now its all about those three things, 95% of the time.

This may be the case - but again, the thread is titled 'OLD skool rap'. I don't give a fvck about ANY of the crap that's being put out today, East, West, North, OR South! It all sucks IMO.

Just remember bro... it was born in the Bronx. You West Coast cats had no clue... just had to look over to the East to see what the trend setters were doing, and then follow suit (poorly I might add).

ok ok I will leave it alone.. I'm just givin you shite..Most of you guys who are into the west coast- east coast rivalry are so defensive Its fun to stir up the pot...But I can see you are startin to get a little huffy...heheheh...

I personally dont have a preference to what coast it comes from..Music as a whole is defined to me by whether it makes me feel an emotion...if it makes me angry, sad happy aggressive or whatever then it is good music..then the artist has accomplished what was intended, For you as a listener to understand and feel what they feel thru their music...

I listen to every thing from classical to country to death rock back to church hymns. It just depends on what mood I am in and how I want to feel at that moment...
