It really is like a drug to some people and you cant explain it until you experience it. It takes months to get over or for it to start to loosen the grip just like going through withdraws. It really is strange. That's why like on the Hangover part 2 when they say Bangkok has Teddy I can relate. Even now talking/thinking about it and it's been 3 years I get this pulling, anxiety feeling in my chest just like you would if you were jonesing for some crack.
This doesn't surprise me one bit. I'm addicted to Asian women. I don't have yellow fever. I have the damn yellow plague!!!!! Lol

I hear you and I have always had a strong attraction to Asian women but still it's VERY different once you go. there really is not explaining it. It's hit's a lot of people but some it doesn't. The ones it does they all explain it the same as if it's a drug addiction. Feeling you are home sick once you leave or falling in love for the 1st time. It sounds sappy and I had read up on most everything for a year or more before I went even taking Thai lessons for a couple of months before going. The day I got there everything changed. Every plan I had went out the window and I felt a freedom I had not felt since I was a kid like all the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders.

If I did not have a 14 yr old daughter at home I would have only gone home long enough to liquidate everything I had so I could move even giving up the good paying job I had. Now I'm on a 10 yr plan on doing the same but 2nd choice and I think a little more reasonable is to the Philippines. Somehow I will still manage to find and excuse or two to make it back from time to time. Maybe I will have to take up golf. I hear they have some nice gold courses.

Hearing your passion for that part of the world is getting me seriously worked up for my trip!!! I'm actually slowly saving so that the wife and I can retire as expats in Panama, but maybe we'll love SE Asia so much we'll have to rethink our plans.

Wait until you go to make any sort of plans or decision and then it it gets a grip on you like it does so many make sure to take time away, step back and force reality and logic to sink in. So many go by their gut and are financially ruined within a few years. Although it's cheap most people over spend and get in the habit of living like a king. It's so much more meaningful and fulfilling if you try to live more simple and become one with the people and culture as well as always having respect for the people and understanding you are only a guest.

There is bad also but most people who find it are looking for it. One of the first things I noticed was how people with so little had so much more life, love and compassion and it was all true how we tend to get caught up with STUFF. I'm still fighting it but I am in the process of simplifying things and trying to minimize and get rid of STUFF I dont need.

Everyone is different. You might not get the bug or you might and your wife might not? If you plan on working at all it can be a bit tricky due to Thai laws and the tea money culture. Laws are also subject to change due to interpretation and the tea money fund. lol

So true. Every time I saw a couple of family in Thailand, especially Pattaya the husband looked like he had blinders on trying to only look forward but seeing everything at the same time his eyes were bugging out and the wife or significant other looked pissed and watching his every move. Only time it was different was other Asian families, some European families and of course the smart husbands who just gave the wife the credit card to go shopping while he went to play GOLF with his buddies....

What's funny is it's not even the girls. Yeah they are part of it but it's seriously like you are leaving/loosing a best friend or how you would feel an addiction to a drug and not having it. It's weird and hard to explain unless you have experienced it but I know from a lot of people I have talked to it's far from only being me.

My wife has been dead against it for years, caught up in the stigma of roadside scams and the sex trade. It wasn't until about 2 weeks ago when we were driving with an older buddy of mine that did the Hong Kong/Laos/Malaysia/Thailand circuit that got her considering it. Her brother is doing Thailand solo as we speak, so she's been reading his blog and now she's all over it.

I know we're joking around about it being the single guy trip, and if I was single I'd go solo and thats how I'd treat it; but I'm not and I can;t think of anyone else I'd rather do it with

besides, i can get some dark tint, knock-off Ray Bans at a street vender to hide my straying eyes

I spent 31 days there on vacation this year and it was incredible....everything lovbyts is saying is completely true. The place is just plain incredible. I always go to Bangkok and will be going again for 3 weeks in May an another 3 weeks in August. I'm hoping to pick up some good gear while I'm there but I'd have to know it was good stuff beforehand as there are way too many fakes (of everything) in that country.

Anyway, if any of you guys were there during the time I'm there feel free to message me and we can go out or
something...I know ALL of the "good" clubs to go to for women...both p4p and office girls...

There will always be a place in my heart for the LOS...

I know good spots to get away for a "massage" in koh samui, pattaya, and Bangkok if you're interested. Also, as I have a Thai gf...I once got 3 legit massages (with her) in one day just so on the 4th one she was all massaged out and didn't wanna go...then I slipped away to a different type of massage place

I used the excuse of when I broke my back lifting years ago and that the massages provide temporary relief. My Teerak understood perfectly haha
