I pin quads exclusively and have literally no issues...I'll walk you through how I pin (minus sterilization/aspiration etc.)
First I cut my quads into four quadrants with my hands (yes I run through this every time). Then, if I'm pinning my right quad I will select the outermost quadrant that is closest to my hips.
You can pin safely anywhere in that quadrant but I've found that pinning in the middle of it works best for me. I use a 23g 1.5 inch needle but lately I've only been going about 1 inch deep as my legs don't carry much fat.
I also go in at an angle, syringe pointing away from my body at about a 45 degree angle.
After pinning when I pull out there is zero blood (for the last month at least) and when I stand up it feels like nothing happened.
The first 4 pins in each quad sucked though....tons of pain.
Also try injecting slower...I probably take over a minute per ml. I can't say it helps because I've never done it fast but I do know that I have zero issues.
Hopefully this helps.
