i like metallica and a lot of the other older bands mentioned...(except kiss ) but why haven't i heard anything about linkin park, coal chamber, saliva, or maybe some godsmack? All of these get me pumped up like a mofo before i hit the gym.

on second thought...scratch that saliva comment. i just downloaded their last two albums and they suck big c*ck.

2 years old but still a good thread.

    BLACK SABBATH

They did it first. They did it best.

Iommi and Geezer are gods. no doubt. but just because they invented the genre, doesn't mean they're the greatest. I happen to believe they are the heaviest band, ever. Iommi's chord progressions are just demonic. You'd be burned at the stake if you played those chords 200 years ago. The instrumental work in Sabbath is just phenomenal. But as far as overall best heavy metal band ever, Megadeth takes the cake. Dave Mustaine made Metallica, and then created Megadeth, which is light years ahead of Metallica in every aspect of music to music theory. it's just absolutely no question, no contest. Megadeth and Sabbath are the 2 greatest heavy metal bands ever.. Iommi created Metal, Mustaine created Thrash..

    THANK YOU

I also feel that megadeth at their best is better than metallica at their best.

What is your favorite era of sabbath? headless cross and the dio albums are my top 3 from sabbath.

Pantera by far are the best modern metal band.
    Slayer are class too.
    Obituary unbelivable.

    And from the originals:
    Black Sabbath.
    Budgie.
    Led Zepplin.
    AC/DC

There is more but I can't think of them.

Metallica, it is scientifically proven if you dont listen to them then your a p^ssy....LOL

So I say who wants to be a p^ssy???

  37. #37
The original Children of the grave. and the original symptom of the universe (both sabbath). Sepultura is good, but I'm not the biggest fan. BTW, whoever is a big Meshuggah fan. Check out this band "Tesseract". Its one of the most ridiculous bands i've ever heard. They basically took what Meshuggah does, and made it more ridiculous somehow.

I've seen Get Thrashed, it's ****ing awesome if you like those bands, which I do. That's the stuff I grew up on.
And while Mustaine may have invented thrash metal, I think Slayer perfected it.
Don't get me wrong I LOVE old Megadeth, but I think Slayer kicks it's ass.

Let's break it down like this...

    60's/70's - Sabbath
    80's - Slayer
    90's - Pantera
Today - a bunch of crap

****ing brilliant list man Completely agree. Maybe Megadeth can sqeezze next to Slayer. Metallica really have a lot of their success down to Mustaine and his influence imo. And Cliff Burton was a great loss too.
