best metallica album

i'm sure their are alot of people that don't know mustaine's ties to metallica and the fact they kicked him out because he was basically a drunk and a bit of a liability (metallica's story) and the scene with him and lars in "some kinda monster" paints a picture of mustaine being very angry and jealous at the band. i'm aware dave "co wrote" some material with the rest of the band and some very good stuff but they would have made it fine without him, in fact that's what they did. no question dave mustaine is very talented and his band went big after they "sold out" as they say and made some mtv and radio friendly tunes just like metallica did just a year or so earlier but only metallica in known as the band who "sold out". jason newsted said it best when asked about selling out, he said yep, we sell out, every seat in the house.

The only diffrnce is megadeth is still putting out good albums and Metallica hurts themself everytime they do. Theres nothign wrong with experimenting with styles to try and bring a new audience in, which is what metallica did, but instead of at least keeping their original style and mixing new things in they just shit themselves. megadeth may have put a few songs for MTV or so but they went back to some good music orientend around thrah after a little while. I mean even if Metallica put out another album that sounded like the black one would be somewhat respectable but nope worse and worse. And Newsted thats the type of cop out move I expect from a sell out justifying themselves, if they sold out the place playing old thrash that would be one thing but never again can they sell a arena out and not say this is from the black album b/c they can play songs from previous albums but most of those people are there b/c of hereing the black album. Look how many great thrash bands came around the general area but didn't get too much notce b/c old thrash isn't that good to listen to as a rock fan

Too add to above after so long your music begins to fade a little bit I mean the last 2 MD albums were ok nothing super great but were thrashy metal, not old thrash but the elements were there. To see an original thrash band come out now a days with Hardcore and Metalcore ruling the scene is very rare but is always nice to hear somethign new and fresh Megadeth and Metallica are both putting albums out Megadeth very soon, so this will be a test to see if either of them decides to go back to the original ways

when i think of metallica i think of "puppets" not the "black album". the "black album" introduced many people myself included to metallica and after i heard it i went directly to the music store and bought their previous 4 albums and was blown away by "master of puppets" and to this day i think it's the best metal album ever recorded. so i'm kinda glad the sold out. sorry about all the """"""

I agree I mean the black album was the first piece of metal that I listened too(mainly enter sandman) when I was a kid so if they didn't sell out who knows what would of happend I just wish that after Load they would have said wow what happened and at least put more black album material out

it's hard to explain the shortcomings of a band like metallica to someone who hasn't played an instrument, esp. the guitar in this case, but there are deficiencies in their execution that can be downright painful to listen to, the very begininning of the first "one" solo is a perfect, glaring example. to hear playing like this is much more stasfying. it's much-better developed, goes through some really interesting changes both rhythmically and tonally, and the lead playing is phenomenal. it's extremely well-executed and technical, yet varied.

being a drummer, I'm partial to And Justice. Lars really stepped up his game for that one. After catching the Black Album tour 4 or 5 times I lost a lot of respect the band. (from a musical standpoint) They intentionally played to the new fans first only to disrespect them after they left. (stadiums cleared out after the first set) Comments along the lines of "lets get heavy now that the kids are in bed" or "NOW we can get a pit going" were commonplace at the shows I attended.


From a business standpoint they worked real hard and earned next to nothing for a long time so conforming a bit to make theirs is understandable. Touring life is tough, the time in the spotlight is short, and life is long. Cash is a must. Since conforming they have made FAT cash yet they still choose to stray from their roots. This really gives some insight as to where their heads are at.


Although I will listen to their post Black Album stuff (St Anger BLOWS at a whole new level) because its better than most of the "modern rock" that the radio spits up, it really can't be compared to music from their metal days.

Forgot about "Until it sleeps", that is a bad ass song. As far as the albums, I don't think any of them sucked. They are all good in their own way.
