Question for recovering addicts

^^^ Same here. Started with Cigs and Mj. Stopped both Cold turkey. Sept 20th 2000. Just stopped Drinking period the last few months. No help, Just stop being around those people that influence me to do that. If they do it, How can you not be influenced to do it.. If you go to a Bar, its hard not to drink. So keep yourself away and it makes it easier.

Guys, try to stay away from specific drug references. We all understand what addiction is w/o mentioning you drug of choice. This thread was pretty heavily moderated last night and I don't want it to get closed and deleted.

Couple of the recent posts were borderline, and every borderline post encourages one that goes a bit further.

Wow CBGB, that's a terrible sponsor experience.

I sort of had one for a couple of months, but I just thought mine was a looser and suspected that he had a bit of a crush on me. I ditched him when work prevented me from going to the meeting at which he was a member.

Annoying guy assumed I was out running just because I didn't want to hang out with him.

yeah finding a good sponsor is tough. but it is good to be accountable to someone you really trust. That stabbing story is quite screwed up.

It was a poor way to sober up, but I did sober up. That experience haunted me for a long time.

I don't know exact date because I had a few slips, but I havn't touched the hard stuff for a little over 5 years.

OK now I get it....and to address your original question...aas IMO does not constitute a relapse...although many feel a sense of well being on juice...it is not in the same catagory as some of the "harder substances"...I have had "sponsors" that say it IS a relapse...but after beating the crap out of them I fired them..jk lol.......you would be surprised at the number of people in recovery that have tons of clean time and sobriety that use aas...I will say this...that for real "hard core" junkies I don't recommend having any needles around. I certainly can see them being a "trigger"...and have seen some relapse due to it.

He makes an excellent point about that.

I never used needles so it doesn't bother me but if I'm in a supermarket and see iodine I get tempted to use so def beware of your triggers.

I'm a recovered alcoholic and tobacco addict. Falco, everyone has their crutches in life. Some are healthy forms of coping, some are disruptive and dangerous to our health. I think the main thing is that you are honest to yourself and keep constant vigilance on your addiction symptoms if they emerge with AAS.

...and 12 step groups will have very extreme and definite definitions of what an addiction is, and what constitutes a relapse. This is part of their strategy for overcoming addiction, which is very, very difficult (or impossible) for some people. You must be honest with yourself and make sure AAS doesn't affect your life like the other did.

I've noticed in a bunch of posts that quite a few people on this board used to have drug problems. Do you think that aas use has any negative effects on your sobriety. If I'm being honest sticking myself with big needles tickles that same part of my brain that used to enjoy the ritual of sticking needles in my arm. I haven't touched dope in 5 years and I don't have any desire to, but a small part of me is unsure if doing aas constitutes some sort of relapse.

I'd really like to hear some toughts from other addicts who have some experience with this. I know some folks say aas helps to keep them sober. I can't really bring this up at an AA meeting (i don't go anymore anyway) because I know what they would say.
