Scibble, are you not in your 40s???? IDK thats up to you.... recovery is much tougher as you get older, and I mean recovery from everything, cycle, workouts etc..... that would have to be a personal choice with what your goals are.....

i think it's the same whether a guy or a girl. if you're into someone and they suddenly dump you, it's much more difficult if you "don't know why".
