I will agree with you 100% that Iran was better of under the Shah than they are under the current government headed by Ayatollah Khamanie.
But you have to understand, Iran is not acting Islamic. Islam doesnt force people to follow the tenets of Islam. Islam lets people choose what they want to follow, and what they dont. They choose wheather they want to go to heaven or hell. No government has to force a people to do good or bad. It must be their own choice.
The only thing a person has to do to be a muslim is belive in the Shahada "There is only one GOD, which is Allah, and Mohammed is the Messager of GOD" that is it. After that the choice is yours, wheather to be a bad muslim or to be a good muslim.
Ayatollah Khomenie's son, an Ayatollah himself, is totally against the current Iranian government calling it unislamic. It is human nature TO REBEL against anything that is forced upon you. The Iranian regime is forcing strict Islam on its populous, and it is human nature for the Iranian people (especially, since by nature they are a rebellious peoples), the youth will rebel against something that is forced down peoples throats.
All religion should be about choice, it is your decision to go to hell or heaven, that is what makes it, significant. If someone forces you, you are not doing it because you want to, you are doing it because you have too.
I honestly wish the current Iranian regime puts more moderate practices into place.
