is it even heavy metal anymore? Isnt the new thing nu-metal or whatever? I liked slipknot and mudvayne when the were newer and more raw, but arent they catagorized as nu-metal ? They softened up a bit, however

Tool, is kinda like progressive metal, but no one can touch their lyrics. Maiden is amazing, even old Manson is good. Pantra is kinda repetative in there sound, and the lyrics could have been thought up by a 10 year old, but there decent. Slayer would have to be up there on the list. I have sceen Tool, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Ozzy, System of a Down, WASP, Cannibal Corpse, White Zombie, Mettalica, and a bunch of others, nothin was as Good as Tool was live. Although the first time i saw Maiden it was close.

I like slayer riffs and their drummer, but kerry king as a soloist is just awful..

    It WAS "nu-metal" now it's "metal-core".
Who gives a ****, the new Cannibal Corpse comes out Feb 3rd. That's all that matters.

Anyone ever listen to sugar rays first two albums? They were kind of heavy. dont think it counts as metal though, maybe a few songs. Ever other album went soft

all i know about sugar ray is that they're l.a. guns fans... that's almost cool i guess. i can't even imagine them being heavy though lol. oh, and btw... ALICE IN CHAINS!!!

the best 3 metal bands ever? for me

    1. Iron maiden
    2. black sabbath ties with megadeth

thats the best that I can narrow it down to. metallica would be 4 probably

WASP is great, love listening to them too. to whoever said they saw them live

Top 3 from Sabbath would be the first 3.

The first 5 are all killers.

I'll pass on Never Say Die and any of the post-Ozzy stuff.

    killswitch engage sucks.

they have some good songs that are fun to listen too, but any band that screams and growls besides maybe pantera are just posers and lacking in talent. THey dont have guitar solos for christs sakes. I do like their choruses though, but the trendy growling and screaming is a result of the quality of singing and guitar playing going down. dude, like the guy below me said, but in my own words....belching/growling/screaming is ****ing gay and takes no talent. its not understandable, it lacks melody, and overall just sounds like repetitive bullshit. lets talk about how bad life sucks and lets whine, thats ****en cool.

I dont think megadeth, sabbath, pantera, metallica etc etc are lollipop.

i like heavy metal, and anything fast. But i cant stand metal bands whose lead singer sounds like hes belching the whole time. It doesnt even sound like vocals or words, just belching. I remember hearing song by cradle of filth sounding like that.

they make some good music that is awesome to listen to, but I would not in any way say they are at the same level of GNR.

    Killswitch Engage sucks.
So does Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine, As I Lay Dying, and all this other new polished, formulaic, "metal-core" bullshit.

    Hot Topic metal.

yes, the new GnR album is absolutely ridiculous. the technicality, fusion of styles, musical complexity, and of course vocals are all absolutely unreal. Buckethead and Bumblefoot. PERIOD. The guitar work is mind blowing.

btw, i'm impressed with you guys. i don't see people who listen to real metal/rock very often. everyone is a bunch of vagina's these days, with absolutely no appreciation for talent. hence, RAP. lol.
