I've got to agree with this sentiment. When controversial topics are discussed, it's easy to get pulled in and react emotionally when people disagree. I pride myself in (trying) to stay objective and emphasizing multi-layered truths without making responses personal. In a board full of testosterone and alpha males, this balance can be second nature. I think it's a cultivated discipline that allows us to evolve intellectually.
I, for one, really try to value opposing viewpoints (if presented in a respectful, intelligent & well informed manner). I do tend to get impatient, though, when having discussions with people who are steadfast on their views without concern for the truth and facts. It's like the meme tcw posted. What's the point in trading information if someone only wants to acknowledge some of the components of a large equation?
Having said that, I agree completely with wmaousley's opinion, but also came around (due to intelligent opposing arguments) that Kyle did deserve my gratitude for his service- even if he made sure everyone knew about his stories (the true and the made up ones). wmaousley's values are much closer to how I idealize an honorable and humble warrior, but that doesn't represent everyone.
Guilty i should fvcking think so but not the death penalty i think his family and chris have been let down by the american athorities. After all the man did for his country life without parol is a disgrace.
