if you've got 3 wheels slipping 100%, you aren't exactly going to rocket off the line anyway.

BTW, you fix bmw's...my buddy's 330xi lost reverse this week (automatic). Only 35k miles on it...What's up with that, apparently it's a common problem with them. Any idea how much to fix?

A lot. Most of the time when you lose reverse the transmission must be replaced. There are rare occasions when it's something inexpensive like the torque converter clutch pressure relief valve, but usually it's not that simple. Since we only replace transmissions at the dealer, it's going to be pricey. You're looking at about ~$2000 just in parts. If you take it to an independent trans shop that will open up the housing and replace the defective clutch packs, then it will be much cheaper.

    hmmm, that's not good
thanks, I'll let him know, it's been parked since losing reverse (he's got a truck too). He was afraid to take it to the dealer until he had some money to burn, figured it was an ass raping repair.

Benzs all the way for me.. This car is a beast and find very few other excotic cars can keep up with this. I am a huge AMG fan, and take advantage of how these cars sadly deprieciate after just 1 or 2 years. 2005 cl65's are now being sold at auction for less than 40k, for a car that was 187 k just years ago, its a steal for a car nut like me. Mods to come!!!!

I would think you would need bigger numbers to go into the low 10's even with slicks....But then again, I'm far from a car expert.

my 1996 honda hatchback did 441 hp at the tires at 15lbs of boost...

on a 1.6L motor, that would get 32MPG if it didnt see boost (easy driving)....

441 to the wheels with that little boost? thats about TRIPLE stock hp from the engine, now to the wheels. what else did you do to it?

besides stealing the little brother's (acura) grill

I have to agree, that's a 106hp engine stock...and by the way 32 mpg isn't any big deal when you're pushing hp and torque numbers that would only be impressive in a lawn tractor. My saab 9-3 gets about that with more than 2x that power from the factory.
you'd have to be pushing nearly 5 times 106 to get 441 to the wheels.
The transmission, crank, cylinder head, pistons, axel shafts...none of it can take that power anyway. A friend of mine had a pro built 500 hp engine in his wrx and it lasted all of 3k miles before it exploded and became a lawn orniment, that isn't any fun. Overstating hp numbers seems to be part of the commuter car bolt on culture. I never understood the hobby, seems so cost ineffetive for the car you end up with. But as long as you have fun with it I guess.

Not a fan of wagons , but that is a very neat looking car.

How many miles you get per gallon on that thing?

better to make more power with minimal boost
    boost pressure = hot air
hot air = pre-det and lower air density

lol kratos i don't feel like quoting that whole thing, but yeah i definitely know about the oversteer and understeer. i've driven a decent spectrum of cars, mostly my friends, so a few bmws, a benz, a cobra, a 00 a4, an 08 a4, some nissans, a couple hondas, and others. the fwd ones with actual power definitely lift up in the front.

i thought a lot of saabs were awd? my dads bmw is rwd and handles snow decently. its not very powerful (2.5l i6, i think 186hp?) it makes it up the hills to my house fairly well. the WORST car i've ever seen in the snow is my moms avalon. its an 07 fully loaded, with fwd, and the japanese didn't think to put in a button to turn off traction control. seriously, this thing will get on any incline with snow, make it up 5 ft, then slide back down cause it won't even let you spin the tires.... worst thing i've ever seen. oh yeah, not to mention it feels like you are riding in a boat among the clouds. i don't like that car at all.

for that vw, its just crazy they would think of that. the car is way too small for that much power, and it could never be practical. but its interesting to see what they can come up with.

and in general, i like rwd more than fwd. awd can be iffy, but a good system on a good car is nice.

yes that is true.. teske 4.6 blocks tha t were in the older mark 8 and 96-98 cobras can handle well over 1000 hp.. the bottom end suck on the stangs..hyperpathetic internals not good for much over 400hp and thats pushing it..03-04 terminators[cobra] has forged bottom end and they start giving away around 800... and that m5 is a bad ass car but slow..

Lol...thanks for pointing out the reason motorcycle insurance is high for younger people and all of the cruiser riders are loosing the road respect they used to get from automobile drivers just a few years ago.
