My dog looks at me funny if I use her toilet, we kinda have an agreement, I walk by once a day and flush it, don't go to the bathroom in it, and she keeps her head out of my toilet. I don't know why more people don't use a spare toilet as a dog's water dish, it fills itself, no muss, no fuss.
