lol i don't know about hush... but securenym is pretty much bs

it only s/mime and pgp as long as it's not the newer version. They claim bugs but more than likely they just aren't compatible yet. I personally woudlnt' care for the decrypting via key method but to each there own. Then if you go to the security section and it rants about scans of emails and back logs given to authorities....but it doesn't say it doesn't do that... it's funny. It really gives no assurances.

Just checked Hush out... they offer pretty much the same services. They don't say they offer mime but i'd rather PGP over it anyway They just don't base there entire service on "security". So price and availability would be what to base the choice off of.

Securenym isnt completely bullshit, yes it uses S/Mime, and PGP which are levels of encryption for the actual email, but does not hide any of the paths the emails take to get from one server to another. Hush does not offer this feature.

    article found: http://www.worldnet-news.com/starters.htm

What a nym server does! Read below.

There are several levels of anonymity. Over the course of WorldNet News's history, we have continued to receive common questions. This page will attempt to answer most of them.

People have a desire to send anonymous e-mail or newsgroup postings for many reasons. If one of the reasons is to use anonymous resources to spam, then you have not found the right place. While we do condone responsible advertising, we do not condone the use of anonymous resources to do it. Such abuse will cause the closure of these valuable resources.

Lets start with newsgroup posting. For making a quick and simple post to a newsgroup THIS method will work fine. Using this simple method allows you to make a post to a newsgroup using a single remailer. As described in the link, you can also send e-mail in this manner. This method allows you to make the post using your existing mail program and default mail server. To further enhance anonymity using this simple method, you can send the mail to replay using a Hotmail account. You should use this Hotmail account while under a proxy so as Hotmail will not know your identity. Since Hotmail is WEB BASED, you can send and fetch mail with anonymity as long as you go to the hotmail site while your browser is configured for a proxy.

Lets discuss our remailer. Note that it is a secured remailer. It resides on a secured server. The secured remailer is on a server comparable to one used for conducting credit card transactions which means the data transferred from your machine to our mail server is encrypted. This remailer sends your post or message to our server. the message is then encrypted with pgp, sent through the remailer chain to a NYM server where it is decrypted and sent to its destination. Using a NYM server is the most secure way to send messages. Simply put, messages sent through our remailer are not traceable back to us, much less you. Using this remailer prevents your ISP from seeing your message.

Many times we are asked, "What is a NYM server?". A NYM server is short for anoNYMous server. There are two NYM servers that we know of. alias.cyberpass.net & nym.alias.net. To use a NYM server, you must first set up a NYM on one of the NYM servers. You MUST have PGP (2.6.2) installed on your computer. There are two helper programs available in our software section that will help you set up NYMs on either NYM server. We have found alias.cyberpass.net to be MUCH easier when setting up a NYM. John Doe will set up NYMs on the alias.cyberpass.net while Jack B Nymble will set up NYMs on nym.alias.net

The advantage of using NYMs other than it being the most secure method, is that people can RESPOND directly to your NYM. When you set up a NYM, you are asked for a valid e-mail address. We use hotmail boxes which we will refer to later. When someone replies to your NYM address, the NYM will encrypt the message, send it through a remailer to the address you specified where you can pick it up. The message is encrypted so if its intercepted, its useless. Only you can decrypt it with your pgp key. Using John Doe, it will act as an interface and easily allow you to encrypt and decrypt messages.

Using Hotmail you can configure your browser for a PROXY. Doing this you can safely retrieve your mail by masking your ISP from them. Using this method allows you to surf the web anonymously as well. When using our remailer, people can NOT respond to you. If you wish people to respond to your mail or posts, you must include an address within the text body. using a Hotmail address as described above will allow you to safely retrieve your responses.

With regard to anonymous newsgroup browsing. Your best bet is to use an open news server. It is a well known fact that most major IP's log their news servers. It has even been rumored that some have turned the logs over to law enforcement agencies for their review. Since you are paying for a connection to use that default news server, chances are good that they know where to reach you. using a foreign or open server removes that paper trail. These servers should be rotated often. While we publish a regular updated list of such servers, they seem to be killed quickly. We suspect this is due to spamming through the open servers. It is wise to download News Hunter from the software section and compile your own unique listing of open servers based on your criteria. NH can be set up to search for servers that only have the groups you want. Using different newsgroups to test from as well as a different ISP, you will certainly compile a totally different list than ours.

File Scrubbing. Do you think simply deleting a file makes it go away? If so, you are wrong. We recently discovered EnCase. the software cops use to scan hard drives. We quickly found out what works and what does not. A simple shredding does not do it. Using BCWipe and Directory Snoop (both available in the software section) worked quite nicely. BCWipe also cleans the free space on a disk which is very important.
