relay switch to stop counting milage on your ride??

my buddy got a relay switch put on his dodge ram 2500, it stops the truck from counting miles. he can turn it on/off at will with a switch located under the stearing wheel. has anyone herad of this


he got it because he's rich as shit and knows everyone from the man on moon to your mother, basiclly he has connections out the ying/yang.

They hook up a laptop to my car and set the miles back or just stop them alltogether.

i took the fuse out of my 96 chevy step side a few year back, it is located directly behind the speedometer. i took it out for a year and then sold the truck and got way more cash. as for a fuse like that i have not heard about it but i think its an ok idea, but most new vehicles have an internal computer an they are not able to be reset, or they have a hours meter for the engine, and he'll be screwed anyway when he goes tosell it. he will sell it and then they will arrest him for fraud...

well im guessing he will just trade it in he drives alot for work, its a 05 model with 50,000 on it, so the switch will work good in his favor

the hours meter has nothing to do with milage counting, milage only counts when the wheels spin, the motor timer can be on while in idle, but during idle your not moveing therefor no miles loged

i know that...but think about this, would you buy a car that has 20,000miles on it...probably....what if it had 20,000miles but the hours on the engine 15,000 hours, that is roughly 16hours a day for 300 days a year and 3 years. so with the engine hour meter you get a true sense of how much it was actually driven...granted it cant tell ya how hard it was driven but either can the mileage.

also if someone buys that can with 20,000miles and goes oh well it wasnt driven a lot it must be good, then they check the hours and realize it was driven a lot or at least was running alot, which is still stressing the engine, they can go back and sue for fraud. trust me there was a huge cause with an used car company in my home town, they caught them doing this and they are screwed.

I don't know about GM, Ford or imports, but I DO know that most Daimler-Chrysler vehicles store mileage in 2 seperate areas. One of the guys at my station moonlights as a mechanic at a local dodge dealership and told me they regularely catch "end of lease" cheaters.

One of them (which can be hacked or bypassed) is the odometer, the other is inside the computer and cannot be reset (any tampering with it is detectable by the dealers diagnostics computer).

Yeah, thats why id never mess with new vehicles, older ones i would, id never **** with a dealership.

Illegal. It may not show up on the gauge, but it could still be stored in the bcm. I know that in OBD 2 GM and Toyota vehicles, the motor will not run if the odometer reading to the BCM is cut. (I'm not talking about the ECU... different control box)

Correct, as most of my family is/was/will be employees of DC they do store it in the computer, and you will get caught.
