    My battle with sleep apnea..

IS NOT OVER YET. i went in for a sleep study last night where i was hooked up to like a thousand wires and in the morning i was told i dont meet the sleep apnea criteria. i dont believe them. of course i couldnt even sleep right, at home i never wake up during the night so much but last night was uncomfortable. theres a reason im always tired and need naps during the day and am irritable and my bloodwork shows im fine and not anemic either.

I treat this all the time. You have several choices:

1.If the doctor does not diagnose you, then surgery won't be covered by your insurance and neither will a ventilator (I don't like either of those anyway).

2.A dentist (with proper training) needs to examine you and determine whether your soft palate or tongue is causing your apnea.

3.Then, there are at least a dozen simple, comfortable appliances that can be made to alleviate the anatomy determined above.

Ask your dentist, he SHOULD be able to help. Those sleep docs either want to slice up your soft palate or make you into Darth Vader at night.

I can't believe i do not have sleep apnea, according to the study. The doctor will be in touch with me in a few days.

i dont have a dentist but i have dental insurance along with my new health insurance so i will go look for one today and have him examine me. i also need to remove some wisdom teeth that are bothering me anyway.

So you are saying they wont always diagnose someone with it but a dentist can help more?

I don't know why they diagnosed you negative. If you snore loudly, then you probably have at least mild apnea. A dentist can make you a relatively inexpensive appliance that will alleviate this versus getting soft palate surgery or hooking up to that Darth Vader device every night.

i actually live alone so i dont have anyone telling me if i snore or not. i dont think i do but my father used to do and he died from a heart attack. i think he had sleep apnea but no one knew. he was 47 but had high bp and high cholestrol.

would there be any other reason why i am tired like this and need naps? i came back at 5:30am, posted this around 6:00am and had to go back to sleep and just woke up. its 11am.

Im going to see a dentist. My doc will be in touch with me about this sleep study. I dont believe they did the test right. I also kept waking up, it was hot, etc.

mouth retainer? probably the inexpensive appliance that SMYL_GR8 was referring to about seeing a dentist for.

how did that work for her? does she have apnea?

That sucks that you had to get a study done and you didn't meet their criteria. My study was borderline but I was able to sqeak by. I personally love my CPAP (darth vader). I can't even take a nap without it. Ask your Doc how close you came to their criteria and if you could do another one, if you're in the ballpark.

I think thats is The Pillar Procedure. I have just been reading about that. Theu inject three small peices of some shit into the back of your throat and it supposedly stops the area from collapsing when you sleep which then causes the snoring and stuff. http://www.restoremedical.com/pillar.asp
