Got those people in your gym?

You know the guys that look like they only do one muscle group ever. Watching this guy today, he went for 315lbs for bench and barely got it up with horrible form and by looking at him you woulnd't even think he could squat that much let alone bench it. And theres also these other young guys that I think the only thing they work out is chest and bis. ED or EOD I see them doing chest. Do people like looking wierd? Cause some people have absolute horrible proportion.

I think alot of them only do the things they know. I didn't know how to work legs and back at first. they need education

  3. #3
I see that all the time...there are young, very thin guys that bench alot of weight in proportion to there mass. And they do always work the same group, you would think it would overtrain the area and make it harder to lift heavier.

i just get a chuckle watching guys lifting so much weight that their form is a posterboard for how not to lift and then walk around with their chest puffed out.

Most of them dont know how to train, there was this black guy once at my gym he was a great guy and funny too but the only thing he did was incline press.

He had this amazing upper chest but the rest of is body was funny to look at, small legs, and all.

I asked him why dont you train your whole body? he said cause i just like to do chest.

LOL, basically hes saying I only do what I like to do. You know whats wierd is that most people say they work out to look good but with these workout regimines people have I think most people in the gym are going to look bad if they stick with that. Me and only probably a handful of other guys in my gym have overall proportion and strength.

I would like to say that I don't notice because I'm so focused on my own training but the fact of the matter is I do look around between sets and notice people heaving around large weights with poor form. It's amusing but I get annoyed when I want to use one side of the cable and some dude is using it to do "cable crossovers" and he's using too much weight - he's actually doing "verical" bench presses with cables and taking up "my" space. That definately activates ROID RAGE!!!!!!!!

Man first gym sucked, it was at high school, u could only lift for like 30minutes before they close it and later me and my work out partner got banned because there cheap ass equipment can't handle the weight. Then second gym was USA gym and that was the best, it was like a dungeon and loads of big serious guys, they didnt waste any time. And now at Xsport Fitness and its decent, has lots of equipment but have to deal with the regulars and young punk kids.

Funny you say this. There was a kid at my gym tonight with really well built arms. They looked really good and full. Honestly they were probably a little bigger then Carlos. But his shoulders and back were smaller then mine. He looked so out of proportion. And he was curling in the squat rack tonight

Wow i agree, lots of poser's in my gym. But i dont think any of you have Kip and Napolean!!!! Seriously there are 2 guys that look like Kip and Napolean that go to my gym! Hilarious every time i see it! I curl in the squat rack too btw. nobody really does free bar squats at my gym anyways, they always use the Smith Machine. Only the serious guys will free squat.

Ha the big arms guy sounds like my roomate. Its almost pathetic becuase he thinks hes gods gift to lifting and knows everything about it....as hes reading through his FLEX magazine. I start to chuckle when I read it and see omg there selling this bullshit roids in here, hes like what you talkin about those d-BALLS are real...im like ok...and then he gets upset and real defensive. Im convinced he used them back when he was like 17 becuase his arms are quite big, but he literally does them everyday.

He kinda looks like Ludacris in that musci video with the big arms. What a fag.

    I train at the Y

My biggest gripe isn't the old people making me wait, but not having heavy enough DBs. They only goto 90lb. I have been harrassing the manager for months, trying to get at least up to 120lb.

Most of the old people stay in the cardio and machine areas anyways.

It seems alot of people don't like people that do curls in the squat rack.

Where do you guys do your barbell curls at?

Hey I actually noticed somebody curling in the squat rack for the first time the other day.

I have a friend at the gym, we call him 'half-rep' lol. H eis a strong dude, he looks very good, diced, with a real deep, full, top to bottom set of pecs. But, he gets under the bench. reps 225, then 315, then 405, and sometimes even 495. Sounds impressive? yes, but he unracks the bar, and literally brings it down about 3 inches, maybe less. We take the piss out of him, but in truth I couldnt unrack 495. Still, he is ona one way ticket to wrist/elbow injury street, I wish he would lighten the weight and rep properly.

Another guy, who is in the same posse as half-rep, comes up when Im deadlifting 405, havent deadlifted heavy for awhile, so was rather chuffed. he is a strong, well-built dude, but hasnt really been training long, and didnt have a clue what deadlifting was. anywho, he puts on my lifting straps, and picks the bar up, cranks out 5 evil looking reps. and then does it afew minutes later. He now has a bad back lol. His other buddy has a go, cant lift it, so takes a plate off each side and then has ago, but what he does with it more resembles shrugs than deadlifts. I warned them that form is everything, especially with deads and squats, but they didnt listen. and in a nasty way, i hope they pay the price lol

The old people and newbies won't let you work in. They just sit their ass there through sets and rest. And the teenage guys just do chest and bi's and then leave the dumbells all over the floor! Squat rack is always open, thats the only good thing.

it sounds like a variation on static lifts... it's actually safer than a full range where he lowers the weight into the weak part of the shoulder.. strong is good..

That made me One of the trainers at the powerhouse I go to is an absolute monster. He has a comp coming up this summer and I was watching him do rows on the squat rack with like 350+lbs... the next day he was doing curls with the shit I practically squat.

No he genuinely doesnt know what he is doing. He just has good genetics and cycles almost constantly. Works damn hard dont get me wrong, but his knowledge is whack. He doesnt train his legs because "they are like twigs"... all the moire reason to start working them right?

He does bench press and one arm dumbbell curls EVERY day, and thats it. Oh and power cleans/shoulder press in one. He is a great guy, looks great, but isnt clued up on the gym.

Make him realize that legs is HALF YOUR BODY. You might as well tell him to just workout half his upper body, just left pec,bi,tris, shoulders.

There's this one guy at my gym, mid 40's I'd say, that puts 225 on the flat bench and crank out about 8 reps, and stand around for 10 minutes before doing it again... I haven't seen this guy do any other exercise, I think he just comes in to socialize!

totally agree. i used a half down static movement routine for 7 weeks and i upped my bench to around 320 from 285. great strength building routine. helped me out with joint discomfort as well.
