Norton or Avast?

I'm currently running avast with ad aware on my desktop with no complaints. My laptop came with Norton but the subscription expired. My ISP comes with Norton. What should I do?

1. Uninstall Norton and load up Avast and Ad aware?
2. Uninstall Norton and load the copy of norton that came with my ISP?
3. Leave Norton installed but also load the copy that came with my ISP?

Thoughts?

I was just about to say the same thing, last virus I had was missed or mis-identified by all but Kaspersky.

I'm going to uninstall Norton. I've read that it embeds itself into the registry. Nice. Then I read that Symantec released a tool to uninstall norton. Sooooo

Whats the procedure here?

I'm thinking uninstall through windows. If that doesn't work use the symantec program. And if all else fails go through the registry?.

I have always used windows uninstaller. Then went into start/run/ regedit then delete all the norton/ Symantec keys , save and you should be good.

Uninstall both and get ahold of Nod32

Best AV by far that I've used.

If you are removing Nortan you are much better off using the Symantec tool to uninstall norton. It is much easier and removes all it all. The windows uninstall however leaves bits and pieces which can interfer with your computer.

avast is free not horrible but you get what you pay for for sure!

ad aware is garbage now barely finds anything

The older versions of norton were garbage im talking very very bad download the "norton removal tool" and run it

The 2009/2010 versions of norton are the lightest fastest out now and are very good at catching/preventing infections

id say go with the new norton

kaspersky is one of the best antivirus programs out but itll slow your system down a little/ nothing bad but moreso than norton

100% disagree. The reason why i went with kaspersky was because of how slow Norton was. It use to hog my resources like crazy.

Kaspersky has been the best A/V program i have used. On top of that their customer service is also very supportive.

I had unbeleivable problems with Norton (2009 edition). I finally gave up on it when the Norton software started putting a popup on my screen, and the only way to get rid of it would be to buy something from them.

Now my Vista system runs much better with ESET. I have no idea about the other antivirus programs, Kaspersky or one of the others might be better, I don't know. But all the folks at the computer shop who were there with similar problems all bad-mouthed Norton, and most folks recommended ESET.

So far so good . . .

For what its worth Norton is similar to a virus. I swear I had to follow a 10 step process to get it all out. BS

I personally don't run a virus scan, but if I did, I'd probably go with nod32.

If you are very conscience of the sites you are visiting and careful about what you open on your computer (and we're talking EVERYTHING from excel files to videos)....you don't even need a virus scan.

I use: http://www.virscan.org ... and just scan everything that I run. I guarantee you... with discipline... my method is very effective...
