you know, as I get older, these things no longer bother me. It's all about respect and following the rules. I see no reason why orientation should matter. I think many people who are against gays in the military, their fear may be driven by the idea that somehow the military will become a magnet for gays similar to the perception that the Catholic church has become a magnet for deviants. As long as mutual respect is observed, then guys in showers together (one of the driving fears) shouldn't be a big deal. For a while, male on male sexual harrassment claims will probably go up. And there will be fights due to homophobia. Since military pulls from all walks of life, including bigoted ones, and churchies that feel all fags should go to hell, (and therefore need to be punished) I suspect the military will need to include some kind of "tolerance training" as part of it's new recruit orientation.

So I'm for gays in the military, but I'm also taking a wait and see attitude, suspecting some kind of a backlash.

I don't care about orientation at all. I don't apply for things or join things telling them that I'm heterosexual. I dont' see why you would do the opposite. I do wonder though...they seperate men from women in showers ...barracks...etc. Makes you wonder if they are going to do something about the new recruits living arrangements during bootcamp.

There's absolutely no reason why a gay individual shouldn't be allowed to serve their country.....

You bring up a good point tho..... men wouldn't be able to hold back if a female recruite came on to them. Can we expect a gay man to hold back and not have a sexual encounter if another gay man came on to him? Urges will always be there..... and we're only human.....

If they want in let em in. I doubt too many of the flamboyantly gay Perez Hilton types will be lining up anyway. I suspect most of the gay men that decide to join you wouldn't even be able to tell they were gay without being told so.
