    Protein through the night

I know that breakfast is extremely important due to your body has not had any nutrients for the past however many hours you were sleeping, so would it be beneficial to take a protein shake (low carb) in the middle of the night when I wake to pee? or is your body technically sleeping as well and the protein will not get absorbed?

    Thanks

I take one before bed, but I was wondering if it helps any to take one midway through the night when I get up to use the bathroom?

Yea definately. If you are awake anyway then do it. But remember that during sleep your body is recovering. So don't be like me and wake up at 3am for an hour to make a full course meal..... Down the shake, take a piss, then go back to bed

    Nothing wrong with that.

I leave a small cassein shake with some EFA's prepared and ready to go if I get up to piss.

I don't think it's necessary to set an alarm, but if you're up, throw it down.

Circadian rhythm is super important but getting adequate nutrition is just as important as well.

Me personally, I wouldn't risk breaking REM just to get a shake in. Utilize enough Casein before bed that will sustain you for at least 6-7 hours.

I read something about pre-making your protein shakes loses some of its efficiency the longer it settles. I will try to find the article.

Casein shake with extra virgin olive oil before bed.

I'll take sleep over food during the night, but if I happen to wake up, sure... but right back to bed.

I take calcium caseinate with l glutamine and bcaa's before bed and when I take up to piss usually perfect timing around 4 hours after I go to sleep. The reason for being hungry in the morning is because you have revved up your metabolism. When little things in your nutrition program start to make a difference calcium caseinate used in this way with the glutamine and bcaa's will be noticeable.

I usually have a shake made with about a cup of milk and 20-30g of protein in my fridge if I have to wake up to pee. But I don't have to everynight so I just leave it for the the next time.
