Needle disposal

How do you guys dispose of your needles/syringes? I was doing some research and a needle disintegrator seems like a good option. It melts the needle into a small bb sized piece of metal and then it is safely disposable by trash. Seems like it would pay for itself as it negates the need for sharps containers and time/gas money traveling to dispose site.

I store mine in a large salsa plastic bottle. the walls are thick.

I store them in a protein container then give it to a close friend to incinerate. I've heard many others put them in a protein container and tape/glue on the lid and toss them in a dumpster. I personally don't do this out of respect for garbage handlers, but to each his own.

I put them in a disposal container and give it to someone to drop at the hospital to put it in the hazard disposal. All my town requires is a strong container to put it in the trash. I still take it to the hospital for disposal.

I break tip off and place in sharps container then put the syringe itself in trash. At this rate, I won't have to dispose of my sharps container for decades lol.

A cut mine up with a pair of snips in to tiny bits and the barrel no chance af any body getting hurt if it was me who found them in the bin i would go mad so i would never do that to someone els.

Uh oh, Ive been recapping the needle twisting it off and throwing both parts in the the recycle container because of it being metal and plastic. Am I doing a bad thing even though needle is capped and very difficult to uncap if not on the plunger?

I always just put mine in a water bottle and throw it in the trash when its full(capped of course). This is what my endo dr. told me to do when I was first put on insulin. Now you guys got me feeling like that is NOT the right thing to do. What is the concern with someone getting stuck like that? I cant imagine somebody digging through the trash and openinng a bottle full of syringes that you can see. Am I missing something here? How else should I dispose of them? In Florida.

Hogg...unfortunately, I get a guy each monday morning digging thru my trash. He actually opens each bag and empties the crap out, spilling it on the street sometimes. Ticks me off. And, I live in a decent area. I called the city, but they don't give a hoot.

At my old rent house I lived before I bought my house there was a crack head that would dig in our trash. I laid a nice pile of rotten leftovers from the fridge ontop of the trash bags inside the trash can. It was mid August & about 100* outside.

I never saw him again.

Most pharmacies will take full sharps containers for disposal. The pharmacies in my area do.

My county requires us to put them in a study opaque container like a bleach bottle and toss in the trash. I took my first set to the hospital and the were dumbfounded. A guy eventually came and collected them but it took a while and a whole bunch of calls.

You can drop off sharps containers at any place that has its own hazmat disposal (hospital, clinic, fire station, etc). I'd just leave it somewhere obvious where an employee can pick it up and throw it in the hazmat dumpster with the rest of the stuff.

Some fire stations will take them. The station I work at doesn't have an ambulance but the next closest station houses an ambulance & they do have a biohazard trash can. The firemen won't mind if you pop in & ask, if they don't have a biohazard trash can they can tell you the closest place that does. We would much rather you stop in & ask than throw them in your household trash.

Put them in a protein container and when full either use encapsulating foam or simple spec mix cement and add water. They will be in a cement bubble and you can safely throw them away

Or you can pay a company (around 60$) for a big sharps container. When its full you out it in the box it came in and send it back via mail for incineration.
