there are bad seeds in all professions
That's the problem here. These are the only stories that make big news. The bad guys give a bad name to the profession as a whole. I've had a few run ins with the police and although I wouldn't say they were pleasant, I've never encountered an officer that wasn't polite during the process.Originally Posted by Times Roman
you are showing your age youngster. Cops have slowly been getting better. When I was a bit younger than you, was pulled over in a rain storm on my Harley. (Ran a stop sign, 2 in the morning, no one around, didn't see the cop). Hauled me off to jail, and put a hook on my Harley and hauled that off too.
Cops kicked my ass in Georgia.
Spent the night in jail because the young cop wanted to use me as a guinnea pig and tested me for everything under the sun. pupil dialation, everything. I was in a suit, and about 30 or so at the time. I was stone cold sober. pure BS
many more incidents, but I imagine you are getting the point
Sadly I don't think it has as much to do with age as it does the luck of the draw in the few I've had to deal with.Originally Posted by Times Roman
This incident is the second in the last few years with this particular sheriffs department. Granted I'm sure there have been many more that didn't make the headlines.
I dont like most cops. Some are good but for the most part most IMO are bad. Most have the exact same personality type. They get on a power trip and dont really think they are there to protect and server the public. My experience is just keep your nose clean, dont say anything to a police officer (this is your right) and avoid them at all costs. Its a thin line when dealing with them. I think what is in the photos happens a lot more than most people want to think or believe.
Dont get me wrong, I have respect for the police but I dont like most of them nor do I trust them. I do have two friend that are police and a couple of neighbors that are cops.
every profession attracts certain personalities.
I think the psychological profiling required for employment prescreening LE is a good step. But it certainly is not fool proof.
and then there are some that have feelings of inadequacy and compensate for it by donning a gun and a badge.
Yes to a certain part about the personalities but they all seem to think their name is Richard.
Sherriff Jimmy 'JJ' Jones demoted the five officers involved in the incident. Jones' action in disciplining the officers was well-received by the community. He's now up for re-election, with early voting already taking place.
Demoted? I think criminal actions should be filed against the officer that chocked the kids out.
No the officers that got demoted were involved in a different event a few years back. That particular event was non violent.Originally Posted by BigTahl
The choking in the article just happened last night. So it should be interesting to see how it plays out since the sheriff is up for re-election currently.

Sounds like its time for the Sheriff to go and most of his staff.
Well this seems to be rare occasion, but the officer in question has already been fired and the case released to the attorney general for further action.Originally Posted by BigTahl

If a civilian did this, he would be in jail. So should this loser and sorry excuse for an officer. Except, because he is a police officer, his judgement/punishment should be triple that of a civilian, at minimum.

Police are here to "protect and serve". Horsesh!t. They are here to serve and its mostly ridiculous traffic violations that further bleed people of their money and do absolutely nothing for motor safety. I won't elaborate, but seatbelt tickets are a perfect example.
You can get in an accident driving the speed limit at 65mph and be fine, but if you drive over 70mph all hell is going to break loose! People will be dying left and right.
Outside of that, police arrive AFTER the crime has been committed. Unless they are coincidentally in the right place at the right time. Its all about fear. The law abiding citizens fear the police. The scumbag criminals obviously could care less. Its not working and they know it.
Its all about control and money, not personal safety.
As was said before, "there are bad people in every profession"
