    2022 Olympia

Hell of a line up this year. I like Hadi, I like Derek. Kinda tired of Ramy’s physique to be honest. I like Krizo but this isnt gonna be his year still too early once he defines and adds some more back I think he will be a force.

Rami doesn't have it this year, imho. I see it as Hadi, Lunsford, Walker, maybe Curry in 4th. We'll see how they judge as they tend to favor the current champion whether deserved or not.

I was surprised just figured big ramy would be at the top and he dropped to 5

Finally more honest judging. I hate it when the reigning champ wins and didn't deserve it.

Did you guys see the comment and pics from Barry Demay regarding lower backs not being cut? He showed a pic of himself in an olympia decades ago along with Hadi currently.

Something in line of this Kel? I honestly am having a hard time finding an image of Hadi’s double bicep pose from 2022. Do you think current guys’ calves are keeping pace with the mass that they are coming on stage with as well? That’s the old school guy preference in me, I know.

That's how it should be anyway. This was a pic comparing Demay's lower back with Hadi's and wondering why in this current day it was not in top shape.

Found it. Agreed. However Hadi doesn’t have the benefit of full lower lats. There is a lot of variation in that muscle from person to person. I’ll have to punch up an image of Mike Katz from “Pumping Iron”; perfect example as his back is a bit awkward looking.

High lat origins. Far less from the lower, lumbar spine, probably none from the iliac crest of the pelvis. One of those genetic things that can’t be overcome with training.

Seeing Brian Shaw hand out the 212 Medal to Shaun Clarida was kind of funny. Shaun looked like a legit midget compared to Brian.

I'm hoping they'll get rid of the 212 division. Height really shouldn't be a factor in who is going to win and The Olympia should be about the best of the best and not about having other divisions so guys that can't compete in the opens can get medals too.

I thought Clarida looked great but when you see those guys against the Olympia’s, it’s not even close. Also wild that Hadi literally gets 8X as much money, you can see who they hold in the highest regard.
Even Ms. Olympia only walks with 50k

Both DeMey and Gaspari brought conditioning and shredding to a different level. I remember M&F and Ironman magazines running photos of those two. Damn.

My theory is that the GH and Insulin grow the muscle cells so much that they just cant get rid of all the water like they did back in the 80s . Just a theoretical opinion. You can see how much more dense the muscle tissue is vs Hadi and Demay

I prefer the golden era physiques any way I think bodybuilding kinda changed in the 90s at least we have “classic” now so not all of us have to look at 5’6 guys with turtle shell abs

He did look great, but Shaw is 6'8 and 450lbs so he literally looked like a midget bodybuilder.

I just think they have way too many divisions and way too many people allowed to compete there. And yeah, they're all in great condition. But there were so many of them and it was going on and on and on. The event would be a lot better if they cut out a lot of the divisions and cut back on how many guys are allowed to compete

    Can’t argue with that!

Much prefer the golden era physiques as well, they’ve just gotten too dense for my taste. Just doesn’t have the flow and artistry either, at least for me

I agree with you. The way bodybuilding changed in the 90's and way it's evolved in to today wasn't for the good. They put more emphasis on muscle mass and then to ignore proportions or the bigger picture of how it looks.

    Thanks Wango. Remember Katz well.

It really is unfair. Way too much of a disparity in winnings.

Like in the NPC. The more divisions they have the more entry fee's they can get. And entering a National Level contest is $200.00 plus anymore. Ridiculous.

I won't lie I love cbum. I know he is only classic and not open but he looks amazing. His misso is so ugly though. I don't get it. He could be slaying it but he is with her. Blows my mind all that wasted potential.

You reckon maybe the diets played a big part too? They seemed to eat a lot less carbs in those days and more of a high protein high fat diet. Not to mention fewer calories.

I like how Gaspari just clarified his statement about today’s backs and the current Mr. Olympia. However if either he or DeMay equate a “conditioned” and hard back with having to have a Christmas Tree, I respectfully think they are off base and unreasonable.
