I think both is optimal, I make sure I take them before doing heavy cardio especially.

Yeah there shouldnt be any problem taking it with whey. My casein protein shakes that I take before bed have BCAA in them too.

personally I sip on my bcaas while training and have my pwo shake right after. I have read ( from C Bino ) that you should not take free form aminos ( bcaas ) with your shake. I cannot remember exactly why he reccomends this word for word, but I bet if you look for it youll find it. Plus your whey should have a good amount of bcaas in there.......jmo.....

I couldnt tell you if there is such a thing as having too many bcaas but if its not necesary it could start to get a little $$. I pick up powder bcaas by o.n and its around $30 which lasts me......um....not sure.....I take 1 heaping teaspoon with water for 5 days/week and 1 tub should last.....um.....

Sorry, bla, bla,bla.....lol.......you get the picture...

If you're trying to avoid catabolism - then before and/or during workouts is warranted. If you are trying to fend off muscle catabolism that occurs after the workout, then bcaa's should be taken in plentiful amount then. After workout is what I've found the best, but that's me.

Bcaa's have to compete for receptor ports against other aminos during absorption, so keep that in mind when you take protein. 10 grams post-workout works noticeably well for me.

Do not take BCAAs in conjunction with a protein shake,This question is asked alot. There is a reason you purchase BCAAs individually, so that they can work alone.. For them to do there job optimally they should be taken alone on an empty stomach.

I take BCAA on when I know my muscles are/fixing to be deprived of them. E.g.- Upon waking, pre/post workout...hell, even after a long sexual encounter with a female. Ha! J/k. Its also smart to consume them if you know that your consuming incomplete proteins like fruits/veggies/nuts. Ive always been a huge supporter of BCAA. Bigger than creatine IMO.
