    Weighted situps

Anybody here do weighted situps. I've been doing them for about 6 months. I've been using around 60 pounds and doing about 70 reps. Now I want to double the weight to 120 or more but I'm worried about my lower back.

I personally prefer leg lifts, smith crunches, bicycle crunches to heavy weighted sit ups for that very reason. There are so many exercises that you can perform for the abs without hurting your back by going to heavy..just my .02

With that kind of weight your only working out the psoas and making your low back sore. You dont get a six pack from doing tons of situps you get that from diet.

Why are you doing so many reps? Do you use that many reps for any other muscle? arms, legs? then why use them for abs? 8-10 reps is enough. If you want strong abs do weighted hanging leg raises. They're better than these sit ups.

Leg lifts ruined my abdominals. Don't do weighted exercises for abdominals. This is one place where you do not want big muscles. Also stretch your hip flexors

i agree with twist, i dont go lowwer than 30 reps on abbs, i go a bit lower on the serratus movements like 15 maybe for side planks but lower abbs like crunches and leg raises i stay high reps keep the taper in check

    Bingo ^^^

If ur using weight for hanging leg raises u need to build ur legs up because they are too small

LOL that movement when done correctly (raising ur hip and not legs) does not require and added weight

Seated leg lifts holding 20lbs dropping after 10 reps and doing an additional 10 20 won't fuk your abs up sorry can't agree with this one ... Ive trained with pros who do this and yea there abs are huge n IMO I love that look but that's IMO WTF do I know

Jay Cutler talks about reversing this damage inflicted on the abs with tight hip flexors. He goes to some place that stretches the shit out of them for a ton of cash. So not all pros do this. Hanging leg raises really work your hip flexors and abs are a small part of it. Really no point in doing leg raises (hanging) for abs. Some guys like big abs, but even so there are better ways to achieve this. Nobody likes or wants tight hip flexors.
Tight Hip flexors = arched back, stretched abs, no abdominal definition. Stretch your bicep out and imagine it being stuck like that. That's what my abs look like. Great when flexed, but most of the time they are stretched out (beach etc). Just speaking from personal experience.

IF any on u guys still do any sort of leg raise for abs the key is to lift ur pelvis up to ur rib cage, not lift ur legs

Im personally feeling cable crunches ATM,, another move that is murdered in the gym by.... well everyone except me and my training buddy LOL

Form/ technique in the cable crunch is so important...

I would say 99% of people (No exageration) are performing this completly wrong and the reason they are feeling there abs is because there abs are staticly contracting to stop there hip flexors riping there spine into there stomach

    Just think pelvis to ribs
