Post Editorial on steroids... i agree with it

Found this editorial on the net about steroids :

    HOLOCAUST OF THE JUICE
    Tuesday, December 07, 2004

If someone in the broadcasting profession has a bit of common sense, they'd give Tony Siragusa his own show.

Fox is showing the Chicago-Minnesota game after the Falcons embarrassed themselves and our metro area today in Tampa. By the way, that over-paid bust who wears #81 for the Falcons is now PEERFUL Price. He is clearly not peerless. Or Dimeadozen Price. It works.

Anyway, Dick Stockton, the Fox announcer for the Bears/Vikes game sends it down to "Goose" on the sidelines for a report:

SIRAGUSA: It started out sunny today, but it's gotten progressively colder as the game has worn on. Minnesota started to tighten up, and now it's like they're in a block of ice.

STOCKTON: What's it down there on the field now? 33 degrees?

    SIRAGUSA: Nah...It's 32.

Hire Dick Stockton to lead the band and ask stupid questions. Winner!

It's amazing to me that while we watch the 13th week of a sport where everyone down to the kicker on the pro and college level are on juice, (and if you watch any of the high school championships on TV, some of those teens as well) and everybody is all up in arms about Barry Bonds. There's no question he took them, but the key question is not why or if he took them. Would anyone like to know why the district attorneys in the BALCO case are leaking grand jury testimony?

Here's what steroids don't do: They do not warrant the real damage done to a culture by a corrupted judicial system that believes that end zone dances belong outside on the courthouse steps. Steroids don't help hand/eye coordination, so contrary to what the eternally bitter Hank Aaron will tell you, his career home run mark will be shattered without question and without disgrace by Bonds.

Steroids are used for rapid recovery which leads to strength. What would you have them do? Ingest mega doses of over-the-counter anti-inflammatories? Sure, the athletes would be ****ting out what's left of their stomach linings and liver, but that's a small price to pay to curry favor with the political notions of hysterics who start their arguments with, "Look what happened to Lyle Alzado." Who? Mary-Kate Olsen in a Raiders uniform? You can't stop body image psychosis with laws.

Want to end the whining and carping from the liberal hypocrites known as the American sportswriter? They love it when Giambi and Bonds are knocking it out for home team, but they'reshocked..shocked! when they discover that steroids were in the mix. Does anyone believe that the people paid to keep a close eye on a sports team can't see it, when any casual fan sitting in front of a 20" television can? Their real bitterness comes from missing the boat once again. Can't play sports? Report on them. Can't report on them? Moan how you were deceived. In Giambi's case, the personal perils of steroid use are readily apparent. He made a deal with the devil and his steroid use got him injured. But he's made his money, helped sell some tickets, and who's hurt?

You really want to solve the "problem" of steroid use in baseball? Repeal the batting helmet for steroid users. Put some fear back into the plate appearance. Oh, and discourage minors and women from watching sports. Problem solved. Most of the piety and confusion about what the business sports is all about stems from a romantic notion of pro sports as a laboratory where children are taught the virtues of sportsmanship, hard work, and community service. Knock it off, already. Make the kids play sports instead of watching them. They're too fat and lazy as it is. Everyone wins.

Yeah, you'll lose some revenue, but it's a wash when you factor in how much money and time is wasted on public relations programs and enforcement of rules designed to con the consumer that pro athletes can be off-the-shelf muses for national inspiration. You don't see the porn industry complaining about their profits. Last I checked, their fan base was still pretty much a solid "adult males" club. They've got a lot of inspiring people in that business without embarrassing us all by publicly building houses for the poor. When was the last time you saw a hot slut in Juicy Couture and heavy eye liner serving gravy on a soup line at Christmas?

Taking away the tools of a professional whose living depends on physical strength is absurd in pro sports when movie actors get paid as much while taking all sorts of supplements illegal and not, starve themselves, and get elective surgery on their breasts, asses, faces, torsos, all in the name of career research and development. Bonds used steroids to help him jack homers? Well, I heard a nasty rumor that Tobey McGuire used computers, cables, harnesses and steroids to become Spiderman...twice! Look into that. You think Aerosmith took "performance enhancing drugs?" Maybe they didn't know what exactly was in the needles at the time.

If Arnold Schwarzenegger never took steroids, would he be governor of California today? No. He wouldn't even be the Burgermeister of Graz. So spare me the before and after photos of Barry Bonds. No one cares, and nothing will be done because the owners of these teams make more money from schmucks who want to see home runs than from the public interest nags who don't.

Thats a long article, just want to add, he should not be allowed to break the record, because in a sport were the roids are considered cheating, bonds cheated.

I think he can will and should be able to break the record. I hope it even happens next year. Who is to say that back in the day they weren't popping dbol or something else. NO way to prove it. Bond should be remember as the best homerun hitter ever.EVER

As for it being cheating, NO IT'S NOT. It's only cheating when other players aren't using. All of them use and are on the same playing feild. Some get caught and other never do... That's the truth whether anyone wants to admit it or not...

Agreed. Face it Bonds may be an arrogant ass but he has talent. Steriods can't make you hit like that.

Thats one hell of a generalization... I'm sure not every player in the MLB uses steroids . I think steroids should be allowed in baseball, the only reason they're not is because they're illegal. And we all know that morality and the law are ALWAYS together on things wtf, should creatine/protein be banned from major league baseball too? I'd say they give someone an advantage over someone else.

hahaa i can see it now... a big juicehead gets hit in the face with a ball and without hesitation, charges the mound and kills the pitcher. sweet.

Hank Aaron didn't have, or play in a league where there were, whey protein, creatine, multivitamins, a sophisticated weight training room, personal trainers, next to zero ounce baseball shoes, cortisone injections, prescription pain killers (vico - oxy), etc.

So many different advances in training, nutrition, equipment and the like have been made that older records will always be obsolete.

This is what Hank Aaron did do though. He did play in a league where everyone was on a level playing field. Everyone ate generally the same thing and exercised the same way. Why? Because they didn't know any better.

Since most, if not **** near all, baseball players use some kind of steroid or prohormone then they are on an equal playing field. So what if the batters can hit farther. The pitchers can throw faster now too! Shortstops can field balls quicker. Outfielders can jump higher. Everything cancels itself out. Maybe we should just make baseball fields bigger?? Hows that for preserving records?!?!

So Dimes stop your whining about the records and cheating. They're meant to be broken. If they weren't then baseball (and other sports) players would be using gear from the 30's and mandate that all athletes do everything EXACTLY the same so that no other person could have a boo hooo unfair 'advantage.'

Athletics has one purpose and one purpose only. Pushing the physiological limits of human potential to achieve excellence. Period!

Hank Aaron also played in an era when pitching wasn't as good. If you watch Hank or Babe swing you can notice that their swings aren't even close to as quick as guys these days. Babe used a 40oz bat. Bring that to the plate with Randy Johnson throwing 98mph and he would NEVER touch the ball. I played baseball at a major college and hit homeruns. Put me on juice and I am not going to hit 700 homers. Barry is a GREAT hitter period.

If the leagues have rules and you break them... you are cheating. Personally I think he should be suspended the upcoming season, the MLB is one of the worst organizations in the sense that thjey let their players get away with anything and everything

dimes ... steroids dont "make u hit homeruns" ... hand/eye coordination, bat speed, natural ability .. thats what makes u hit HR's

as far as breaking the league rules .... about 75% and more of the league would be suspended ... so much for that idea

enough of this steroids hype ... bonds has been a great hitter his whole career ... so what if he hit 73 in 2001 ... who cares ... mcgwire hit 70.. people weren't bitchin him out ... but since its bonds (who is possibly the best hitter ever) it automatically gets blown up to being a big steroid scandal

The bottom line is ... steroids wont help u become a better hitter ... either u can hit or u cant .. if u can then juice will help with recovery times and strength... but in the end u have to be able to hit the ball ... and bonds has proven it by being a career .300 hitter

he hadnt hit over 48 up to 2001 when according to the balco investigation he started, so it does effect how much home runs he hits, if they suspend 70% of the league, fine... rules are rules. David Stern should be put as the comissioner of the MLB, Bonds would never reach the record, lol.

thats false .. bonds hit 49 HR in 2000
    He also hit 40 in 1997, 42 in 1996, and 46 in 1993

    The last 3 yrs he has ... 46 in 2002, 45 in 2003 and 45 in 2004

With the exception of the 2001 season .... how can you say that steroids have helped barry bonds hit HR's ?? Barry Bonds hit more HR's in 1993 than he did in 2004 ... and since "he's on juice and juice makes u hit HR's" ... where's ur proof ??

A disgrace to basketball? the best guard to ever play the game... ok. And to your other question, the guy is getting old, thats why he hit more in 93.. age. We will never know if he could have hit that without the roids, pretty sure he couldn't. Anyway, if your trying to get me to change my mind its not gonna happen, just in case, other than that, continue guys

not tryin to steal the thread ... but how can say that kobe byrant is the best guard to ever play the game ... haha ... he might be the most selfish person to ever play the game ... but def not the "best guard to ever play" ... you simply cant make that assumption ... its too early in his career and w/o shaq he wouldnt be as good ... look at his team this year ... jordan didnt have a big guy like shaq ... but he found ways to win

Selfish? The guy is nearly averaging a triple double this year, he's been averaging over ten assists over the last 5 games, and without shaq he is doing great, all his stats have gotten better and althought they dont have malone, payton and the diesel they have a winning record.

And back to bonds.. I dont have anything against the guy, I just think that the comissioner has to do something, has to make a stand and suspend this guy, Im a pacers fan, but after the brawl, and the harsh punishment, well i agreed, I assure you players will never do something like they did again. Its the star of the league trying to break a record... well the chance for the comissioner to put his foot down and say no matter who you are, you still have to follow the rules, if you dont, you will be punish, if he doesnt get caught, well no prob, but now he has admitted and they are just going to let it pass by?

if they wanted to enforce the rules so badly they woud;nt give players second and third chances to clean up if they were caught on steorids like they do... the rule is a joke, they need to either enforce it or do something about it.
Also the commisoner and oweners won;t do anything about it unless forced to because lets face it people like to see homeruns. People come to the games hoiping to see the big hits, this leads to increased revenues, which makes everyone happy. another reason why things will not change unless change is forced upon them.

    Barry Bonds&BALCO labs

According to the news reports Bonds was using two substances known as 'the clear' and 'the cream.' I have not seen any such evidence proving that those actually contained anabolic steroids . For all anyone knows they could have contained some pathetic transdermal steroid precursors, which are STILL LEGAL until January 25th when the new ban goes into effect. So I think its jumping the gun by proclaiming his steroid use , without knowing what was contained within 'the clear' and 'the cream'.

I think that it doesnt matter if bonds is "breaking the rules" who gives a sh*t like i said it all comes down to how bad you want it and bonds has always been a good player and if other guys in the mlb are to afraid to do steroids or dont want to do steroids to enhanc their performance thats even if bonds is doing them then that is the players own fault

they did not test for steroids in baseball until last year. I don't think they were against the rules until last year. Anyway without testing who is to say how many of the records are set by people taking some kind off steroid . Do you really think even back in Hanks days people were not taking something to enhance their performance. So since their has never been testing in baseball you cant assume anybody is or was clean. Hell i am doing them to look good just think what you would do if it could make me a few million dollars

Some guys are not only there for the fame and the glory, some players actually respect the game and the leaugue, that why the ones that dont juice, dont juice. The reason the MLB sinks lower and lower is because their arent any guys like that left.
