    Cialis/Viagra and blood pressure??

Quick question, will cialis/viagra affect blood pressure readings?

Knowing how important it is to monitor blood pressure, i'm wondering if these could throw the readings off.

That is very interesting. It seems like more people should be informed about that because they might think their BP is normal when it is actually high. Like if they took cialis and didn't realize it lowers BP.

Yup - due to vasodialation. Vasodialation causes marked decrease in BP. Thats why many heart patients cannot take these meds - one reason is they are already on nitro meds that dramatically decrease BP as it is.

That makes sense for sure. Anybody have any idea of how much it can drop BP and for how long it does this?

The TV ads tell you not to take Cialis if you use nitratates because it can cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure......

I guess this is why my gf's blood pressure was below normal when she went to the doc this week for a checkup (she has been on ECA for a few weeks now). Makes since!

Well I heard the ECA stack will raise blood pressure! But eph is a vasodialator so it seems like it would lower it. Any body have any thoughts on this?

    1) These meds were originally designed to treat high BP. It was only during the human trials that the erection side effects were noticed.
    2) Cialis is FDA approved to treat high BP. Patients in a clinical study were given 40mg daily, though you could get away with much less.
    3) Ephedrine (like all stimulants) is a vasoconstrictor. It does the opposite of Viagra/cialis.
    4) Viagra lowers your BP for 4-6 hours. Cialis works for 24-36.

My notes from class show viagra and levitra to drop it SBP 8-10mm DBP 5-6 mm. Interestingly enough they show cialis to not drop BP even tho it is in the same class. It obviously still stamped with the "no nitrates" label.

Interesting information for sure. Would suck for somebody taking cialis to think their blood pressure is good when it is actually high. Kinda scary. Seems like people should definately be more aware of this...

Well ephedrine is used in asthma meds to open up the lungs tho so i think its a vasodialator.

Why? Their BP would be normal, so long as they keep using the Cialis. It isn't a false reading.

    Your confusing bronchiodilation with vasodilation.
Ephedrine relaxes your bronchioles (letting you breath better), but constricts blood vessels.
