I think they suck. I use it to keep the towel I roll up in place for squats. Does nothing for the pressure.

It's not a cheat, you still have to lift the weight.

Sorta missed the time with this post but for anyone interested... they are a comfort thing... how could it be cheating if your still moving the weight with your legs... it distributes it across your shoulders so youre not balancing 500+ lbs on 1". I don't squat without it. (just dont write your name in sharpie on the inside of it... virtually all my shirts now say my last name backwards across the shoulders)

I never used the manta ray, but used the sting ray and I don't really care for it. That being said, my case is a little bit different, b/c I have some neurological based spine problems, (spondlylolis and spondylolesthesis), therefore my hams are really tight, b/c of this when I squat, I need to do more powerlifting style/low bar squats and the bar does tend to move a little.

The sting ray is built for bodybuilding/high bar squats, no powerlifting style squats with it, which I guess is fine for most. If your doing more of the high bar squat, and the weight is really bothering your cervical area and the bar isn't going to be moving around at all,...then I guess it's not bad. It seems though from the people I've talked to that it depends on the indivdual, some people think it does help a lot and others don't think it does anything. Word of advice, if you can find some place/body that has one to use, make sure you use heavy enough weight, IMO it makes the lighter weights feel extremely comfortable, but with the heaver stuff it just seems to sort of dig into my traps, .......not that it hurts, its just instead of feeling pressure one place, (w/o it), I'll feel it somewhere else, (w/ it).

They are just for comfort, but it will not ruin the workout. When my squat gets high enough, I'll use them. I used it through school, and really liked it.

I love the one for front squats I have a tough time with the weight on the front and it helps me enough to get the sets done
