    10 Reps of 105lbs dumbells. 5 sets

    Hey bros,
This girl friend of mine says that her friend Mac can curl the 105 lb dumbells at 5 sets of 10. Is that possible? I thought I was pretty good doing the 65lb dumbells at 3 sets of 10 at my best shape. Are any of you that strong? I usually only see guys curling up to the 40 and sometimes the 50 lb dumbells.

I want to know if she is full of it.

    Thanks

I know I cant but in any case I'd like to see his form with that weight. Single joint exercises are notoriously dangerous with heavy weights, thats why the olympic style lifts are all multi-joint.

I see people 'bouncing' up and down with 100's of kilos on the calf raise machine, others on the leg press with over 1200lbs of weight, but their ROM is only a few inches.

So in answer to your question I bet it is possble but with what technique and injury risk I cant say.

The moral of the story is dont test your strength on single joint exercises!

I think bicep curls are one of the most improperly performed movements in the gym. People get so tied up with moving up weights fast that they blow proper form right out the window. It's easy to do with biceps since progressive loads need to be in much smaller increments... one reason I like static trainnig for biceps - to progress using total seconds in the contracted position.

Yeah, ya might feel cool... or some girl might think it looks cool... but other than that it has little application to swing shit around with no purpose.

Can you do a 105 pound dumbell curl for 10 reps? If you can, you are probably in some serious competitive shape. That would translate into one hell of a barbell curl when both of those cannons can pump the same load...

well, everyone is very different, and yes, im sure someone, somewhere can dumbbell curl 105lbs. but, judging by the videos of the pros ive seen training, ive not seen many of them curling any more than 80 lb dumbbells, with strict form. keep in mind they are not powerlifters though, but still, pro bodybuilders are among the strongest humans on earth

who cares what he can lift..... if he is a power lifter then it matters. what does his body look like? i workout to look and feel good, not to get into a pissing contest with how much weight i can move. strict form, slow movements and pauses with lighter weights work better for me anyway.

i mite be mistaken but wasnt big louie curling some 105s in pumping iron.im pretty sure he was.

when him and his dad were training and then after louie did a set of them his dad wipes the sweat off his head and says "what a workout!"

ohh and i once had this friend, and i told him that i deadlifted 305.he then replies with,,"i have a friend that can curll that".

    i immediatly say "bullshit".

then he was just trying fight with me saying that his friend is hella big and so on and so forth.

i guess some people just thinks it makes them llook cool if they "know" someone who can lift alot.

dont let it get to your head, just tell her you can curl 135 pound dumbels.

Im sure its possible, I knew a guy who was curling 100's when he was 19. So I definitely think its possible that this guy may do it, no one would ever be able to know. I mean anyone who answers is juest guessing. But you said you mostly see people do 40-50lbs, that's not a hell of a lot of weight so maybe at your gym seeing 40-50 all the time 100 seems like a lot.

I will do in the range of 75-80lbs on any given day and know people at my gym stronger than me so I dont see 105 as a huge leap or a definite lie. Just my 2 cents.

Damn it Tai, there ya go makin me look bad again!

I usually don't go any higher than 45's and even then I'm a little loose. I really prefer 30's with perfect form.

Ditto. I can curl the 80s.. so i don't see the 100s+ as 'impossible'

I think people focus too much on numbers... at the end of the day your body can't count.

So who cares how much Mac.. or for that matter, anyone else, curls?

on kevin levrone's video he only curled the 100lb dumbells for a few reps. So, its possible but it deff. was not easy for him.

I don't buy it at all. Even if he can, I bet momentum is responsible for at least 90% of the movement. It's also only a matter of time before he ruptures the biceps and they roll up his arm like a window shade.

I think he is saying 105's for 5 sets 10 reps each..Kinda of unreal. Even with swinging and sh1t. that to much for 5 sets 10 reps

I usually curl around 55 lbs and there are guys at my gym who have biceps bigger than my head and they are curling just as much as i do and sometimes less than that. Im not buying it either.
