I've never been a runner but I have started for cardio reasons. I need to get some new shoes now. Can anyone inform me on what is and is not a good running shoe?
Thanks,

Just go to foot loocker and look at the running section.
something along the lines of nike shox or the adidas smart shoe.
If yougo to starbucks or something like that... there is a running magazine. They always review shoes in there. Every "running shoe" is not a good shoe...you have to find what fits your weight and arch type.
great tips as always. Can you guys recomend any good websites?

Hands down - New Balance.
I have a wide foot with fallin' arches (traits of being the son of a German farming family) and New Balance is the best running shoe I have ever put through the grinder. All the others are too narrow and don't have the level of support in the sole that NB has... and I have tried many running shoes in my time.
What New Balance do you prefer? I also have wide feet.
Thanks,

New Balance, New Balance, they let my feet breath.
new balance is the best imo also, and i have a very wide foot also and NB has always done me right....
I gotta say, even though I have nike shox, New balance is great for wide feet. do some research, and go try some on. Thats the best way.
i have big wide feet and found that nike air rift kick ass big time, ive got three pairs,i got my first pair in the states 4 years ago for $20 on offer.that pair has done a 1000 mile or more and arent worn out yet, wtf? by the way i find the none velcro ones better.

new balance is a good shoe its like the standard. asics are fairly durable and come in widths, so does the nike triax 9. the arch in asics is usually pretty high so you might change the insole. one thing about the nike shox is the soles are kind of plastic-y and feel slick on wet street.
i used to have flat foot too, theres a company called spenco that makes insoles, they can do wonders for you! also the nice running shoe stores will have a treadmill so they can analyze if you have any tendancies, i.e. pronation or suppination, and they can fit you to a real good shoe...but not nearly as cheap as getting them off ebay haha!
