    tri's plz check!

    hi im trying to shape my tri's but they not 'cuttin' what can i do?

    it's impossible to shape a muscle, a muscles shape is determined by genetics. Losing more bodyfat is the only way your tri will look more cut.

    You can only increase or maintain the size of a muscle, you cant "Shape" "cut" "tone" "Increase deffinintion" "peak" or anything else. Deff. or cut is a result of bodyfat and to some degree water retention. Im guessing you just havent built up enough size to clearly see the tricep or your bf is too high, which isnt a bad thing just my 2cents

    ok im only 15% bf so why do i have to loose more? i know some guys who are in the late 20s but the tri's are cut

    If you built up your tris using them though Thats awesome, threre also an ok way to get a pump but that dosent necesarily mean growth. I know Gary Strydom likes em but for the rest of us.....I dont know.

    The best way to make them more visible is to reduce your body fat, and make them bigger.

    Cause people carry bf differently, Plus im a bit under 15% and I cant see shit on my arms, only when I just got done with a chest/tri workout can I see my tris and they far away from cross-striations.

    plus factor in if your on any supps or drugs because water retention reaks havoc on deff. Im sure under the water/fat you've got great arms there just hidding right now so either say screw it and keep building or start dieting and rip up Good Luck!!!!!!!

    so you cant shape a muscle? so if you take an individual who weighs 200 pounds, who has never worked out, and made him do only incline bench for 5 years, would his chest look different from the same individual if he did only flat bench for 5 years? or if he did only decline for 5 years?

    I see what your getting at, however most will agree you cant "shape" a muscle it will grow to what was genetically designed to do, I agree though that yes a person can EMPHASIZE a certain area to bring up a lagging area but that is because your building the tissue in that area.

    I was this trainee that you used in your example. I did a lot of decline in the begging and my lower pecs were more developed than my upper chest. Now ive switched and have made my upper chest a priority, I havent shaped my upper chest ive emphasized that area and my upper chest has grown.

    The original question was, How can I cut my tris. I assume he wanted to know how can I increase deff of my tris. This only happens in two ways

    1. through the reduction of bf% and to some degree water retention.

    2. Muscle maturity which gives muscle more of a "grainy" look to it.

    My left arm is 16 3/4" and my right is 16 1/2" but who cares, I mean does that mean that because I dont have 18" arms my views arent valid? what if my arms measured 22" would you stop doing tricep kick backs because my arms are bigger? I bet not, if you did that would be terriable. I did say that if it works for you great but I dont think they are a good exercise. To each his own.

    Hell maybe you do kickbacks differntly? maybe you have a great tricep routine that would work for me because honestly tris are a weak point in my physique. its the great thing about the board, it brings together a lot of ideas under one umbrella its just sucks cause people start flaming each other some times.

    17 inch arms is nothing to brag about. It's also nothing to fight about.

    The reason you can shape your chest is because of its complex fascia that practically seperates the pec into two muscles, one upper, and one lower. You can sort of do the same thing with the three fascia in the biceps, but it's much more difficult to exercise only one of them when compared to the chest. It's even more difficult to do in the triceps.

    I'm no expert by far but if this will help you can try it. I do cable pull downs with a short straight bar, palms facing up, and then palms facing down. then i use a rope on cable pull downs going slow and spreading the ends of the rope apart as i pull down. i also do overhead cable extensions. And skull crushers work great also. If I'm incorrect on my terminology please feel free to correct me guys.

    well, for size yeah they are a fav of mine. I like to start with one plate in my lap and work up to 2 and a quarter or 3 plates and then strip one plate at a time on last set.

    Big thumbs up on all types of Tricep dips.

    Talk about attempting a play on words. You definately SHAPED your chest. Not your upper chest, but your chest as a whole.
    If you couldnt shape your muscles, people would be doing 1 exercise per body part x 5 sets. Isnt that why people use close grips and wide grips etc...

    You realize we agree with each other, I think you missed my point.

    here is a good example, if you look at arnolds biceps vs Larry Scott.

    Both men had great development but the actuall shape was determined not by what exercise they chose but what there genetics determined.

    Take notice on what words I chose to use to describe my point.

    I EMPHASIZED the upper chest fibers in my training not to shape but to grow that area. So if you wanna use the term shape then fine I "shaped" the upper chest to match the lower.

    Its the classic arguement that Im going to do concentration curls to shape my bis and get more of a peak, Forget about it, its already been decided by genes to what they will look like when its all said and done.
