    Who hits the heavy bag?

    My gym has about 8 big bags hanging in the room where they have classes so I brought my buddy in today to show me some basics on hitting the bag. We took turns whaling on em for about a half hour. It was a good workout. Even with the bag gloves my knuckles were torn open and bruised between the fingers. Good stuff! I'm planning on getting involved with some fight training soon so I figured this would be a good place to start. I'm checking out a Muay Thai school close by.

    I've owned one for the last 4 years. Has a speed bag on the other side. It's definetely a good workout and i work mine after arms. Did the gloves they provided have a metal bar on the inside of the glove? Mine does and they're solid as hell. Bet your shoulders felt good too.

    It depends on what your looking to get out of it, I'm an MMA fighter and for me i mostly use bags for conditioning and cardio. I usually do rounds with it, its actually nice not getting hit back

    I think the bags are only really useful for working on building kick strength and for conditioning. The punching bags help build coordination, but no bag will ever take the place of real, live sparring.

    Well that's what I'm using it for right now, conditioning and cardio, but I wanted to get accustomed to the punches for when I do actually start training. I still need to work on the footwork. I was told a jump rope will help with that.

    thai boxing is the way to go man but get a mouth guard an do some lite sparring you will see the difference in carido its a lot harder and in my oppinoin the best way to pactice after you learn the technique,dont forget to wrap your wrist or you will regret it especially when hitting the bag

    It is great for cardio, coordination, power, speed, foot work,etc.. I really dig my heavy bag work outs... if you work it hard you will get smoked pretty good. if it was hurting your hands make sure you wrap them til you build some stregnth and bone density.... Also, if you are just starting it make sure you practice technique first, i.e. hit the bag in motion toward you not as it's moving away, angles, footwork,etc.. then start working on speed and power and so on... getting the proper foot work and technique down is critical though... nothing more wasteful then a guy hitting a bag all silly with legs flying around and girly punches...

    grab a round timer from everlast or ringside... do rounds... if you have a rope and speed bag that works great... 3-5 min rounds with 30secs-1min intervals... work heavy bag then rest, rope,rest, speed bag, rest.. and keep doing that for as many rounds as you can. that should be a good smoker.

    I hit the bag...usually for 10 minutes then do pushups and go for a jog.

    I'm meeting a guy at 4 today and I'm going to be starting muy tai and or mma training this week...really looking forward to it!

    I usually hit the bag without gloves...seems as though it helps with my overall punch.

    oh yeah, i do muay thai so the heavy bag is like bread and butter for me, but i much prefer doing pads. Anyways, sign up wherever your going to do it, you will not regret it.

    Love a good heavy bag workout after my shoulder days. Broken thumb a few times on one though so i have to be carewful, hell of a workout though and good way to relieve some frustration.

    Ive been training in Muay Thai for the last few months. It is a ton of fun and an excellent workout. It really helped out with my cardio and my abs have firmed up quite a bit. Not a bad skill to have either.

    yes i love the heavy bag, i train in different types of martial arts ( BJJ,Muay Thai ) so i have to be in a fighting type of shape. Punching is nessecary, I love using the heavy bag as a workout, you sweat a lot, and become a better fighter, good stuff.

    Make sure to check the ego at the door. Big muscles don't mean a person can give a punch or take one. Most striking power comes from the technique and rotating the body. That said I have seen a lot of people enter this gym who obviously take roids, and most of them never came back after taking a beating, getting KO'd , or not being able to keep up with the cardio.

    Fvck the heavy bag!!! I was hitting it for a while and last November I ended sprainning my wrist hitting the damn thing. My wrist still hurts till this day when I do some excersises like skull crushers. Make sure you use hand wraps.

    Keep those legs movin.... Thats the biggest thing. For some I have throw on some tape for the bag, granted I use featherweight gloves. If I dont throw a little tape(knuckles) and wrap (knuckles, wrists, thumb, and fingers) then I will be drippin blood by the end of my workout.
