    Bent Over Shoulder Raise Pain

    So in the gym today and doing bent over shoulder raises, sitting on end of bench, trying to isolate rear delts, and I get these crazy pains around my neck and upper spine. Even now like two hours later there is tremendous soreness. I have not done this exercise in a while so do you think it is due to that or too heavy of weights?

    It doesn't feel like it will last very long, but really uncomfortable in gym. Anybody else experience this?

    Note: Currently on Anti-E Formestane (E-Form), potential cause?

    I have pinched a nerve while doing those and heavy shrugs.

    Can you explain what happens when you pinch a nerve?

    abort that exercise. if it causes discomfort or pain bad idea to keep doing it.

    I felt a sharp pain I've never felt before and went to the hospital because of the pain and that's the reason they told me.

    I would suggest reverse cable flyes instead. Do not keep your hands too high during the performance or they can irritate the nerves in the neck.

    how much weight do you use?

    it dosent take much to work the rear delts.

    I was using 25lbs. Thought that was light enough. Maybe too much swinging and not enough concentrated movement.

    Starting to feel better today. Pain was pretty unreal yesterday. Spine is telling me not to **** with it.

    just make sure your not using your upper back instead of rear delts.

    VERY TRUE!!!!

    Rear flys are tough because your rear delts on average are hit at the end of a shoulder workout and your whole group is/ should be blasted and the back can work its way in and take over on these.

    I belive I read in Arnold's Encyclopedia that he recomended starting your shoulder workouts with this exercise for that very reason.
