    Overtraining question...

When you take a break from the gym to give your body a rest, lots of gym rats say only take a week off, but in an issue of muscular development there was an article that said that sometimes even pros need to take a month off to fully recover?

    So what is true?

I have been training for 4 years now and have only taken a week of at a time, should I give myself a longer break?

If you know that you need it take it. But I think if you cannot recover in 7-10 days you have a bigger problem.

    I just took a 7 day break.

You should take a break or drop intensity for a while not because someone told you so, but cause you need it and reached a plateau.

Lifting every day? Are you really hearing your body or only your head.
Your body is a system which needs recovery totally not only in its parts individually.

Hmm, interesting. I usually take off just a week but this time I am going to take two off, I just got back from vacation at the beach and now I have like 10 heat rashes from my arms rubbing my lats, legs rubbing each other, and what not. Anyone have any tips for getting rid of these annoying things?

It's best to deload for a week after training hard for 4 weeks. Do not take a week off of the gym altogether unless you are injured or totally burned out.
