    are 5x5's worth it squatting?

Been doin 5x5 for squats lately and have seen strength gains but mass is not coming along as expected. Im squatting 2x a week right now. Should I up the reps and sets? People say if your lifting hard enough you shouldnt be able to walk after squatting but I always go the heaviest I can do for 5x5's yet it isnt that taxing.

I wouldnt do 5x5 in the same week, at that intensity you could possibly be over training just a bit. Instead I would stick with the 5x5 for the 1st squat day and then go 3 sets of 8-12 for the next squat day

That does make sense, it would also help mix high reps and low reps together, which people argue which is more beneficial all the time.

why dont you try just training each body part once a week? optimum results that way. i've only ever squatted more than once a week building to a plift meeting and even tht was only every 5th day with no assistant work at all. there really is no need for these fad routinues. after squatting hit the leg press hard or lunges, trust me, you will feel it

5x5 kicks ass but I found squatting twice a wk to be wayy to much for me. You are supposed to have one day where you are not training at 100% intensity you know?

I was thinking about tring stronglifts version of the 5x5s...I heard amazing stuff about that.
Anyone have any info on that one?

After your last set of squat, might try taking off a little weight and hitting a set of 8-10 with no rest. I was using 5x5 and after a while it got easier. The bonus set really kicked my ass and gave good pump.

This should be in the workout section not the steroid forum for best replies.

    However I'll offer my input.

If you are trying to get bigger you should use more volume and train to failure.

    Try:
4 sets of squats 6-10 reps
4 sets of leg press 6-10 reps
2 sets of leg extensions and leg curls (supper set these for a great pump) 6-10 reps

    That's just a sample workout.

The principles you should follow are 6-10 reps with about 70% of your max, train to failure. About 10 sets usually does it for legs, some guys need more.
    Stick with mostly compound exercises.

Use methods like rest pause, strip sets, negatives, super sets etc on the last set of two to really up the intensity.
