Small Toned Waist VS. Bulky and Bloated

So I have seen two types if abs on body builders. The guys with lean, sleek abs with a small waist and the guys with big, blocky abs with a bloated looking waist. I can see the appeal of both styles however I want to train my waist to be defined but still small. I guess the best example would be Arnold Schwarzenegger the guy had the ideal waistline in my opinion. On the other hand Ronnie Coleman has a huge waist and blocky massive abs, not what I am going for.

So what exercises should I avoid and what exercises should I concentrate on to achieve the results I am looking for?

just focus on a good diet and proper amount of cardio. thats pretty much all i do to stay lean. i dont have an ab routine, probably couldnt hurt though.

In the case example you provided, HGH made the substantial difference, IMO.

I have the diet and cardio all dialed in. I am mainly concerned about getting a dis-dented abdomen. I have heard that weighted ab exercises are one of the leading causes. A tip I heard from one of Milos Sarcev's videos was that you should work in a higher rep range and concentrate more on the stretch at the beginning of the rep rather then the contraction at the end. Supposedly this would cause more separation between the abdominals rather then bulking them up. Thus creating greater definition without added mass.

I feel like I may be answering my own question. I am just looking for some reassurance from others who have actually experienced and seen the result of various routines.

If you're that concerned about it maybe instead of the traditional ab exercises try doing mostly core workouts like woodchoppers, planks, etc. Ab wheels are nice if one is available. You could always not work them out, they get attention every day stabilizing your body. Some bodybuilders claim to not do any ab exercises.
