    smith machine

Just got a message from a friend, he just started training. He asked me how much the bar would weigh for the smith. I couldnt honestly answer this for him, all i could tell him is that it wouldnt be the same weight as a normal bench. As if you were doing 185, would feel like 165. And your not using your core to stablize your self.

Was there anything i left out? Was this the right advice for him? Was definately curious about this myself too.

It depends on who makes the machine. Sum are counter w a pull. Sum are on bearings. Sum are slot and track.. I'd get a scale and block of wood 4ft long and check it. Smith is weird cuz of momentum I use it to lift un normally heavy, or really slow. Or really light and fast to work against the momentum. Just my o2.

Iv'e never been a massive fan on the smith machine. I recently however decided to mix things up and throw in some smith machine action for things like chest and shoulders. I find it definitely a lot easier than free weights, it uses less stabilising muscles.

I like using it for military presses and for chest when I want to go heavy as I work out alone. It's nice to know you can push yourself without the chance of killing yourself... well, not NO chance. But much less chance.

Yeah, I've used some where it felt like no weight at all. It was counter balanced. I could literally just toss it up if I wanted to.
