new here, couple questions if I may?

I am 49yrs old. About two years ago I decided I was over being fat. I am 6' 1" and was 237lbs. All around my mid section. So I got down to 188 not by the best methods I am sure but did. Then 13 months ago I started weight training. Hav only gained 8lbs. Was thinking of a cycle but after reading on here I tried to get my diet in order so I am eating more but I think well I know I am still about a 1000 calories short so I am gonna work on that. I want to say thanks to those who hav answered my posts I will take your advice. Now a question? After more digging around on here I am wondering am I working out too much? And can one get size gains by working a body part once a week? I work body parts twice a week now and stay at the gym for one and a half to two hours? I go six days a week. I like going and I think I work pretty hard. I try and work with as much weight as possiable each movement 4 to 5 sets min of 10 plus reps. I am open to any ideas on this? Thank you, and all the best, Robert

Diet section is where you need to spend a lot of your time. There's a challenge going on right now that a lot of members are using as motivation. Check it out here http://forums.steroid.com/showthread...tion-Challange

I am not a fan of the one bodypart per week for a novice or intermediate weight trainer, although from what you describe it does sound like you may not be properly recovering your muscle groups before breaking them down again. List your specific routine and I'll tweak it for the next two weeks before the challange. I'd start by decreasing the number of sets you do per exercise for now. So, three sets per exercise, 8-12 reps, two mass builders and one shaping/stretching exercise per bodypart. If you are hitting each group of muscle twice a week with three days off between you should be fine. At your age it may not be wise to be hitting them three times a week. One hour to one hour fifteen minutes should be a good amount of time per workout.

Thanks for taking the time to write that I appreciate it. I do chest and arms Monday shoulders and back Tuesday legs Wednesday then repeat chest arms Thursday and shoulders back on fridays.....take weekend off. I am open to any and all ideas? I am not afraid to work hard. After reading and getting some replys I see that I need to eat more than I do. Went shopping today for food for the week gonna try and eat more. After losing all the weight I did ....not that I lost it the right way. The way I lost it was by not eating at all or very little so its been a little tuff to make myself eat working on it and getting better at it. Thanks again and all the best, Robert
