    Odd question regarding weight loss

Hey all. Just wanted to throw this question out there and would love some honest opinions or thought on the matter.

    Background :

Weight Training experience - 17 yrs
MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai experience - 4 yrs
    Age - 33
    Height - 5' 10"
    Weight - 235 lbs
    BF % - 15.4

I have made the decision to start fighting in the amateur ranks and have been advised that for my height/reach I should drop to welterweight (170 lbs). I am completely on board with it. I realize I have fat to lose but at the same time I need to burn some significant muscle. I understand that's the opposite of what most people want to do on here but nonetheless I know it's part of what I need to do to reach my goal. Realistically I would like to walk around at 185-188 lbs, do my pre-fight weight cut at around 180 lbs to make weight at 170 lbs.

What would be the safest and most effective way of doing so? I am currently on a low calorie diet (<2200 cal/day).

Thanks so much for any input and let me know if I can provide any further info.

    Cheers

if you are eating good amounts of carbs right now, cutting them down slowly to barely any will quickly cut weight, but 65 is alot it will take a while to get down to that, if you get down to 185 you could just get in the sauna the day before and of weigh ins, but the most i ever cut b4 weigh ins was 8 pounds, 8 hours later in the sauna it was gone, but it is hell

What you want to do is basically overtrain and not repair your muscles. However, you want to keep strength and avoid injury. To do this just workout super hard at mma and keep calories really low (about where they are). Your rest days should be long long cardio sessions (3 hours or so) at really low intensity. You will NEED at least 3 rest days per week to avoid injury while you are doing this. Make sure you lift heavy after these rest days and taper it down to easier and easier sessions until you have another rest day. I think 2 rest days in a row, and one in the middle is the best option. Get to a low bf and then keep going and your body will torch muscle. Don't take anything to preserve muscle.
