I think resources will be depleting and this will lead to many wars, among bigger countries. Little people/places will get stomped out. Doubt we will be the largest world power. We certainly won't have the largest economy. Standard of living will be much better though. Wars will probably be very technologically based as we will be able to shoot missiles out of the sky. If there was any type of disaster such as bombings etc, we wouldn't see it coming. Travel will be much better and transportation around cities will improve drastically.

hate to say it.. but i'll agree, mankind will not be able to help one another until there is a common enemy.. like et comes and we hold together to kick it's ass, but other than that, slow progress, and the inevitable destruction of the republic declining into a socialism then straight to a dictatorship...

History teaches us what we will do..

Low lying area of the coast from melted ice bergs. this will be the roads.

All thats left of the ice caps in the north..

    Beach erosion from higher tides..

    And famine and pestilence...

But that is just the gloom and doom scenario we are fed on late night tv. I'm hopeful it will turn out more positive where we can settle all our petty insignificant differences and work together as a human race instead of nation against nation. if every nation of the world would work together instead of against each other our world would be so much better off and the things we could discover working together would be incredible IMO. Yeah I know it's a pipe dream....People say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. Imagine

actually the current climate pattern is the same we saw in the 30's and we are at the end of that cycle.. so during my retirement in the next 20 yrs it will be some of the most mild and convenient there is..

and since medicine continues to double every 5 yrs for the past 20 yrs and will continue to i expect to still be hittin granny well into my 70's..

I'd like to be optimistic, but population growth and food shortages, along with shortages in energy will create mass movements of people leaving countries that have collapsed. Aide would have stopped flowing to these places and if they want to survive they will move. There will be bigger class separations in developed countries. Medicine and technology will still be advancing but will only become within reach of the wealthy.

I dont think it will be anywhere near where it should be even with technology advancement. Just like the last 50 years they will hold back with progress because there is more capital ($$$$) in keeping things where they are and only letting us take baby steps. There is NO reason we dont already have flying cars. We have had the technology for a long time, everything is in place but in the long run it would save us to much money and resources. We will continue to take baby steps forward unless something extreme happens good or bad.

You know I use to buy into the population growth until I started looking down at the ground while flying. There is a LOT of open space down there. The problem is we all tend to swarm to one area. We just need new cities built. I would venture to say we dont even occupy 5% of the earth at this time.

Population growth problems have nothing to do with land size, it's the resourses that every extra person consumes.

I realize that but there is a LOT of land that nothing is being done with and we have the technology to turn a lot of deserts into farmland if we WANTED to. Keep the supplies down so the prices are UP. There is a lot of profit in poverty, starvation and charity.

You cant grow oil on a farm.

Until there is a way of producing cheap power soon, it will get worse before it gets better. third world countries can't afford new technologies and cheap power. They keep getting hands outs, when the handouts stop, they will get bought out or people will shift. I can see China taking over land in south east asia as those countries colapse.

Oil production in Kuwait will increase from 2.2mboe to 4.4mboe (Actually this is the 2030 plan) I also see more war, I bet a plague outbreak will happen, Just controlled chaos.

I do not think it will be as bad as this thread makes it out to be. It CAN be, but I don't think it will. There will be major shifts, but they won't be as dramatic for the everyday consumer as we think. China could become the largest economy tomorrow and we wouldn't feel a thing. Not like a bomb drops. Wars have always been happening and they will continue to do so. We can fix global warming, we just don't need to yet. Technology will take us very far.

No it's not. There is just nothing we can do about it. The earth is always going through cycles, warming or cooling. We could be going through an ice age if the timing was right but again, nothing we could do to control it in any way.

Well although I believe we are in a global warming cycle we can not count one season or even 10 seasons or years as any real indication of what is happening as in warming or cooling, you have to look at it in 100s of years time to make any determination since the world is millions of years old and it takes 100s of thousands of years to go through cycles so one or even 10 years is not much of an indication of anything. The human species has only been here a very short time compared to the cycles of earth.

An overall thread of a very gloomy outlook on the future, from people of different ages and geographic locations.
    Very interesting.
None of you, and me, have absolutely no clue. I can come up with a positive outlook for every negative one.
Like predicting the stock marked, Bulls and Bears.
This is purely how you choose to see the future, just a choice.
"There is no such thing as bad weather, just improper clothing"

What has done this to you?
Are you just parroting the news or your parents?

Maybe you have lived too many years, because when you were 15, your outlook on the future was a lot more positive.....
Until that positive carefree outlook got shot down by someone older, "wiser", and told you.... "just wait, you are too young, life is not as easy as you think it is"
Make sure you don´t talk gloom around your children. Let them keep he "illusion" for as long as possible that the world is a beautiful place, and all events happens for the better, nomatter if the event seems destructive at the moment.
Controlled forest fires - a "destructive" event to give birth to new fresh life, as the charcoaled waste fertilizes new growth.

Life will resolve itself through the process of life itself!!!!
Study nature, you will find perfection, unparalleled by any achievement of man, so why can´t we just submit, and stop fighting.
We are actually a nuisance, a disturbance, in nature. We are like that mosquito, bothering you, buzzing around your head at night.
Once an a while nature have to slap us, so she can continue her journey, her mission.
Every plant and animal lives in harmony with nature, except us.
I can´t wait for the day that Oil "resources" end, and we close down McDonalds....the two biggest nuisances to our planet today.

Some of you need to look at what the Milankovitch Cycle is. It was always going to start getting warmer now. But in the next 1000-3000 another ice age WILL occur. For the last million years there have been 10 ice ages that last about 90,000 years, followed by about 15-20 thousands years of warmth. The last ice age ended 15,000 years ago. Ice core records have proved this before God fearing or skeptic types chip in.

Well this it. Short of changing our orbit of the sun, removing the south pole and himalayan mountains, there is nothing we can do about it. I don't think the human race could exist as it is now in an artic world. But the topic of climate is interesting as it will impact life in 50 years time. Its why I think GM food will be the norm in order for us to be able to grow crops in areas of extreme flooding or drought.

I believe in climate change but not human induced global warming. The temps have been cycling for millions of years. To think humans can have an effect through carbon is ridiculous. The global temps have dropped over thae last 10 years. Volcanos pump out millions more tonns of carbon than humans do every year. Oh guess what the trees survive on..................

Oh look, we agree on something. I think you misunderstood me when I said global warming is a myth. I should of said "Human induced global warming" I was replying to twist when he said we can fix global warming- I dont believe we can. We can adapt to climate change though.

I can't believe that this debate over global warming is still going on. Even republicans agree with it now. Seriously guys, get with the program. I guess that if you don't believe right now, you never will. It's like the religion debate with some people.

no doubt the globe is warming. slightly.

but the issue that now is being considered, and will probably never be answered, is how much would it have changed without man's input? remember, the globe goes through huge fluctuations on it's own. Can't blame the last ice age (there have been many) from 10,000 years ago on man, or can you?
can't blame the eigght year pacific el nina/nino cycle on man, or can we?

there are some scientists that are now theorizing on top of all the other global cycles we know about, there are other extremely long range cycles in the 10k to 20k year range, of which the ice age is a part of.

Some are even theorizing there are tectonic cycles that range in the millions of years.

True, as responsible custodians of this planet, we really should try to have as small an environmental foot print as possible.

But I also think it naive to assme this planet's mean temperature should never change. How stupid is that? Of course there are going to be temperature fluctuations (some even caused by the sun) with or without any interference by man. And we are going through a temperature fluctuation right now.

To assume we can control the temperature fluctuations on the globe, is , well, arrogant if you ask me.

Why? I want the next species that evolve to where we are or beyond to know we where here and see how we screwed it up for them or maybe made it better in some way. Small footprint means you don't get noticed. Make a big mess maybe someone out there will notice and come to help us.
