working out on your own !

Does anyone work out on there own?... I work out on my own as none of my mates can be boverd to go to gym they'll rather sit on there backside and drink/smoke, .. How do people keep motivated working out on there own? As when I was in prison I always worked out with other people I just can't seem to be as motivated working out on my own ?

Easy you go to the gym and lift and after a while someone says can you give me a spot or you ask them for a spot and things go on from there and soon you got a gym partner.

PS...if they say they would like to rub posing oil on you because you have a phanthastik physthike... they have other motives :-)

I agree with far from massive. I didn't know anyone at my gym, but i know about 5-6 of them now. But i personally prefer to work out on my own. I get no distractions and if i put weight on the bench, i know i have to lift it or ill look like a bitch!

i workout alone and quite frankly i prefer it. i know almost everyone by face or name at the gym and never have a problem asking for a spot. but what i really like is putting on the head phones and zoning out to a good classic rock song and doing a set. plus you workout with what ever weights or program you want. you never get the ol', "i don't like that exercise lets do this one instead" i facking hate that. or if i choose to sauna and shower i'm not holding anyone up (if i have picked them up)

the odd time i have a partner if a buddy is at the gym at the same time. or occasionally i set up a meeting with a friend to meet up. but alone is the way to go imo..

Always work out alone. having someone else there is great, but it also has the potential of messing you up. There are too many variables. What if they're not into it that day, or too chatty, or late etc.
When it's just me, there are less excuses. I go in, get in my zone, and get it done.

I prefer working out alone, I don't need someone slowing me down, I'm there to get in and get most of the time
Drop sets become your friend as do smith machines for press work.
Occasionally I'll work out with others, but the session goes on too long.

Yep; exactly the same for me as well. If I required to have a gym buddy I wouldn't like working out as much.

It depends on what motivates you, I personally love the feeling smashing it in the gym and being able to walk around with my head held high where ever I go. I tell all my mates working out in the gym for me is like drinking or drugs for them I get the biggest high from it. Maybe your heart is not in it?

If it's what you truly want try mixing up your workout a bit different exercises rep ranges ect, change of tunes on the iPod helps, pre workouts are great, I find all these give alot of freshness to my workouts.

A lot of people don't "like" working out, and I'm one of them. Once I'm in there and get going I'm fine, but really if I could just eat cheeseburgers and pizza and watch TV and look/feel like I want to, I'd rather do that! I look at it as doing what you have to for an hour or so each day, for 23 hours of awesomeness. It's a good trade.
I repeat this to myself all the time and it helps, "I never regret making a workout, but I ALWAYS regret missing one."

I workout on my own, to me its not something you do with others, more of a journey to finding yourself.

I like working out by myself. I don't need to arrange meeting someone else and I can move at my own pace.

My wife used to work out with me and I didn't mind it at all. She helps me change weights (if we are sharing one barbell) between sets, works with my pacing and only talks when she has a serious question. We both listen to our headphones and don't talk much...definitely no small talk.

I don't know if I would even be interested in working out with a dude. I don't need any stupid competition are disagreement on what movements to do.

Agree with Auswest (particularly his avatar) and JV. I work out alone in my basement at lunchtime as I work from home and have for about 8 years now. A modest amount of equipment but you can get by with the basics. Heavy, hard, get in and get out. Still love it and I'm in my 50's. Ipod cranking usually to the Foo Fighters. Occasionally killing the big spiders that try to keep me company.

I love working out I did when I was banged up in prison I lived for the gym, its just getting myself back into that routine soon as I am I'm sure I'll be fine

I also work out alone and with no music when I go to work out its just "me" time. Plus I feel like I get a better work out if i'm there alone and not getting distracted. Honestly getting the motivation to go to the gym is only hard the first couple of weeks once it becomes routine you're just naturally gonna want to go.

I work out alone and at home.. i dont have time to go to the gym between my kid and running my restaurant. I have every thing the gym can offer except a squat rack.. and a leg press but i make do. I can put in two hours a day at home in the gym and not have to deal with other ppl. Also like someone said above if i put weight on i better be able to it up bc aint no one here to help me.. I think this has prevented me from getting injured as well by not trying to impress or whatever anyone around me. I crank up the laptop isten to some kickass music and go at it..

I worked out all my life in a back yard gym, until just recently. How did I stay motivated? Never really thought abouut it. Lifting weigght is just what I did. So don't know how to answer that.

Working out on your own is perfect! I go straight after work, so it gives me some "me" time before gettin home. Absolutely addicted, only time I really speak at the gym is when I walk in, maybe ask for a spot and when I walk out! Loving it

I've never worked out with anyone. I used to have a home gym and even in regards to spotting you can take precautions so that you don't need a spotter. Racks are your friends. While having someone there to push you on your heavier lifts would be nice I think the fact that you're never waiting for someone, you can go whenever you want, and you can crank your tunes outweigh that.

Yeah i have to agree with the majority here and say i prefer working out alone as i can move quick and no screwing around, also if i am having a day where my head just isnt in it (which happens to everyone) i can adjust to that as well without having to make someone else adjust with me....but thats just my opinion

I work out alone. It has its advantages and disadvantages. One main advantage is time. Your not stuck waiting for someone else, and you can keep whatever pace you like fast or slow. However I can stay when I'm lifting heavy its quite the bitch when your all alone. I definitely cant go as hard as I would like to because to be honest I don't want to drop a bar on my neck or something.
I stay motivated cause I'm usually pissed off. I stay pissed off about home life, and all the other crap going on so it fuels me in the gym. Sometimes I'll take a pre workout supp that helps boost energy (that never hurts) But at the end of the day it all comes down to not wanting to be a fat ass or lil skinny guy! Thats motivation enough for me!!!
