    Crunch/sit up question

A buddy of mine does just a crazy amount of ab workout, like 10 sets of 200 3x a week. My question is, isnt there a point that, that type of quantity doesnt matter any more? it just seems that you really dont need to do that many to get good hard abs. He's shredded so they def show, but it just seems like to much to me.

visible abs are mainly a result of little or no bf below the surface of the skin in that area. I've done crunch/sit, abs like steel, yet they really don't show.

some of it is genetically predisposed, well, alot of it is actually. but in theory, i'm told that if I can get my bf$ waaay down, the abs will show.

He was almost NO BF, its crazy, but does he really need to do 2+thousand 3x week? results would be pretty much the same at say 5h 3x week wouldnt it?

he's over training his abs. Unless he is trying to get into the guiness book of records as the most situps or such, better to spend all that energy into other body parts. i only do three sets of chrunchies once a week, to give some perspective

There no point in doing a routine such as that, he needs to do a bit of research and he could save a lot of time. Just doing sittups over and over and over becomes more of a cardio routine than an ab workout at a certain point.

He obviously has strong abs, if I was him I would add weight and keep the rep ranges the same as any other muscle group, abs are no different!

I will do abs twice a week! 3 exercises, one crunch, one twist and one bending exercise, u shouldn't just do crunches, just like u shouldn't do only flat bench for chest!

the ab roller is the ultimate ab workout. it only takes 10 minutes and rocks your world... sets of 200 is pretty outrageous, sounds like he should switch it up a bit.

I'd be curious to know whether all that ab work benefits in other compound movements; as that's my weakest area; but certainly feel that they are needed wherever your core is used as a stabilzing factor. My stomach is a fail and I'm pretty sure all of my BF is actually located there, as it doesn't seem to be anywhere else.
