I guess the answer would be dependent upon what your goals are. If you're bulking I see no need to supplement w/ them as their primary function is to minimize muscular catabolism while in a caloric deficit (woo big words!). However, if you're cutting/in a caloric deficit state they can be beneficial to preserving as much muscle as possible. I've had a lot of success w/ them in the past in that capacity, and if you do a search you'll find a lot of members that mirror the same sentiment.
I take then before bed because I feel it helps with recovery, regardless of a bulk or cut type diet. That's just me though.
Either way I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to take them. The only way to find out is to take them. Thank you
You can take them during your workout and see if you experience more pumps, overall better endurance and a bit increase in strength. Again, all of this may be due to placebo effect, but as long as money isn't an issue who cares...
2/3 of the time I train fasted due to work, I add 10g bcaa into my pre-workout.
That is the only time I use them.
Well I can afford it. I try it each way and see how it works for me. Thanks!
Can you update your progress with the BCAAs? I too have wondered about taking a BCAA supplement, but I currently am not. If you don't change anything else (diet, workout routine), then I would really be interested as it gives a better indicator on whether or not the BCAAs are actually working since you are controlling a few other important variables. Thanks.
I have been taking them for about a week now. Once before training and once before bed. I feel like I'm getting a lot out of them some more endurance and my DOMS isn't nearly as bad I think I'm recovering a lot quicker.Originally Posted by basketballfan22
I like taking my BCAAs postworkout because i read it gets to the bloodstream faster than whey protein.
Ill have to try it that way
I started taking bcaas before I took any other supplement and I'm def an advocate for them. I was dieting to lose weight and it gave my that edge I needed. I felt it really made the difference in my body comp. I take them 4x a day, I take more than I should
You do whatever you want with your money man, but if you don't need to take them since most of protein powder has a even greater amount of bcaa than the pills... if you want to take something during traing, take a sugary drink with minerals. But I personally think it's a waste of money. Besides white meat, fish, tuna, even cereal and milk already have the daily dose of BCaa that you need
same thing with glutamine: present in almost all protein powders, and red meat has A LOT of it. You don't need to spend money on suplementation, because you can take ALL the amount you need from food. Any doctor will tell you that.
Bump
I use BCAA powder and I noticed a difference after a couple weeks. No matter how hard I train, I'm not sore the next day. Gave me good intra workout endurance. Does a great job aiding in recovery. As for muscle sparing or other effects? I haven't noticed anything significant.
